Dennis S brought something to my attention and I think we'll try it, but what I want to know is do you like the idea of thumbnail images in posts in order to save people on dial up downloading time? All you have to do is click on the thumbnail to see a full size picture.

Good idea, Ross. Even with a high speed connection, I find some picture posts take a long time to download the picture.

If anyone needs an idea of what it's like, go to Hanks reunion updates thread and he has some pics posted there.

Would you still post photos in the same way?? I'm not really up on this computery stuff I'm afraid

Yes, but they will attach as thumbnails and whoever clicks on them will get the full size image.

I think it's a good idea, but it took longer to enlarge your Bart thumbnail than it ever takes me to view a picture. Will this affect those of us who use photobucket to post? I would be unhappy if I lost that.

I just uploaded a graphic from my computer to a birthday thread, and the words "attached thumbnails" above it just looks dumb. If we can use photobucket or another outside host, and it doesn't affect the time it takes to view it on dial up, then that's the way to go.
Otherwise, I'm voting no to the thumbnails.

I don't have too many problems anymore with slow loading pages but I am fine with thumbnail photos. I use them all the time while viewing my own files and it gives me enough to know whether to enlarge or not.

Anything that will help the website is fine by me.

I think it's a great idea. And then also, does that mean that we don't need to purge our photographs as often, or will that need stay the same?

Mary, I think that after awhile, no one will even see the printed "attached thumbnails" because we'll become so accustomed to its being there. It will be like part of the framework. I mean, when you are writing a response, do you really notice all the gobbledy-gook at the top here for font and bold and all? It just kind of floats into your perceptual background as you get on with the business of writing or reading. ???

Thanks, Dennis!! And thanks Ross!

I like the concept, but I can't open the thumbnails.

I am using a secondary computer in my household right now because mine is very sick :( . This computer may have different security settings and whatnot, but I don't really know where to begin to alter settings so that I can view the thumbnails. Any suggestions would be appreciated.:)

I voted "no" until I saw that you can click on the thumbnail to view the full photo. The Bart one popped right up for me. So - okay to the thumbnails.

No it won't affect photobucket images. The slowness is the web server itself. It was slow loading everything earlier but seems to have picked up some now.

The only thing I can think of is a pop up blocker is active and you need to tell it to allow pop ups from Valvereplacement.com

It's still best to delete old, no longer needed attachments to save bandwidth. This is just a means to make it faster loading for some users, but not all, on the forum.

I voted for thumbnails.

I voted for thumbnails.

I voted for thumbnails, even though I am sure that I will always click to see a photo the first time I come to it. I am restricted to a dial-up connection, which is, therefor, very slow. When I want to see all the pictures of kids in the "Halloween thread", it takes a long time to load pictures I have already seen several times before. This would make it much quicker for those times when I would like to pop on and scroll down to new pictures that I haven't seen yet. Thanks for looking into it.

I LOVE IT. I LOVE IT. I LOVE IT.It popped right up for me. Sometimes I just skip the pictures - or go off and take a shower while I wait for it. lots of us, like me, live in the boonies and can't get anything except dial-up and it takes FOREVER. Now we can see the picture on the thumbnail and look at the bigtger picture if we want. Let's go for it. I vote 100 times - all for thumbnails. Bet Bonnie will, too

Love it

Love it

OK, I know I am repeating my self, but I just went out and tried the thread showing pictures of kids in their Halloween costumes. The difference is incredible. A huge improvement for dial up people. A million thanks, Ross.
