My husband John had an visit with our PCP this morning about the CT scan he had last week & echo 2-3 weeks ago.
Results:
No aneurysm, no aortic tear. <whew!>
However, MVP with some regurgitation & TV regurgitation.
Dr. Murphy gave him copies of the CT scan report & echo. I won't see them until Sunday afternoon. I'm flying to Houston today when I get off work, will return Sunday at noon.
Dr. Murphy told John that I'd be researching the internet; John said I had him already on the OR table. ;) He said that I had already checked out the leaky valve with my stethescope, so Dr. Murphy let him hear the noise.

He goes 10/19 to the cardiologist; I'm going w/ him.
Dr. Murphy said that the cardiologist -- who is 60 -- is planning to cut back on his hours, that there are younger doctors in the same practice.

Other than that, our PCP wants John to have another echo in 6MO & take amoxi before dentals.

There is a cardio at another practice who lists valvular disease as one of his special interest areas. I will call that practice next week and chat on the phone.

Keeping my fingers crossed that it stays stable for a long time. Did they give you an idea of how much regurg. there is?

I'm glad to read that there is no aneurysm or tear. I'm hoping that the regurgitation is just something that needs to be watched for several years. Best wishes.

How wild is that, that both

How wild is that, that both

you and your husband have valve issues.

I would guess your husband will never need any type of intervention on his valve.

Now, he will understand more what YOU are going through - he can truly empathize.

Best wishes to him -

I don't know anything other than what John told me via phone. I asked him about EF % and he was in the dark. I don't think he knew where to find the info on the report.

His dad had MVP. I doubt he saw a family doctor regularly. The MVP wasn't diagnosed until he passed out at work. He had MVR @ age 63, again @ 74.

On the other hand, John has been very good about having physicals, dentals, eye exams, etc.

I find it a little surprising that both father and son have had MVP. I don't know if other relatives have had valve problems.
I'll suggest to John that he call his brother & apprise him of the situation. He's about 9 years younger. We seldom hear from the brother, haven't seen him in years. He would be apt to avoid doctors, like his dad.

I am really glad to hear the good news. Perhaps this will be something that simply lingers for years to come.
Just FYI - my paternal aunt had MVP (had MVR 2 years ago) and her son has MVP that they have to keep an eye on. Their doc said that is was heriditary. This history (+ my AV problem) was enough for the cardio to do an ECHO on my son (which was A-OK by the way!!:D ).
