Hi Everyone,

This is Jen, Kim's sister. She wanted me to update everyone, as she is still in the hospital.

Well, after surgery she was recovering well and making a lot of progress for about a week. Then she got an infection and once it was discovered, which was about 2-3 days after she started feeling bad, they brought her right back to the ICU and prepped her for emergency surgery to remove all of the fluid in her chest. Luckily when they went in again, her infection had not reached her heart and found that her new valve was not the source of infection and still looked good. To help with the infection, they put in six drainage tubes and are treating her with heavy antibiotics. And the good news is that we recently found out that her infection is treatable and responsive to these antibiotics.

Her surgery was on Monday and now a few days later she is doing well. She's in good spirits and is feeling better every day. Everyone is very optimistic, but of course cautious. We're not sure when she will be coming home, but I think it will be at least another 7-10 days.

Thank you all for your support! We all hope Kim can come home soon!

Thank you so much for posting. We were worrying and it looks like rightly so.

While many valve replacements go smoothly and without problems, it's also not uncommon to have these bumps in the road. Thankfully she was still in the hospital where they could see what was happening right away, rather than being at home and having it progress further before getting treated.

Please tell her that we wish her a smooth recovery from here on out and we look forward to hearing she's been released to go home.

Glad to hear they have it under control and She's on the road to recovery....I had a Staph infection that started with an ear ache...they had no choice with me but to operate but didn't know that my ear troubles were from Staph...They sent me home with a pic line and anti-biotics but seems the pic line had made things worse and the infection spread to the blood stream...I still think alot of these infections could be avoided if people would be persistent with the hospital staff and be made to put on fresh gloves every time they entered your room. Doctors are the worst. I had no troubles getting everyone to change everything once they knew I had a Staph infection. By then it was only to keep it from spreading to the other patients...MAKE THEM WASH THEIR HANDS AND PUT ON FRESH GLOVES!!!! Every Patient should have their own Thermometer and Stethoscope when they are in a room.....

Oh boy!...
Lucky that germ is responding to the antibiotics and Kim is getting better...I am glad she is in good spirits , it helps with recovery...I will pray she keeps getting better everyday

Prayers and hugs going out to Kim. Hopefully she will be home very soon and well on the way to a full recovery.
Thanks for letting us know.

THanks for posting Jen. SO glad things seem to be under control. Please tell Kim we're sending her our best wishes and look forward to hearing from her. Barbara

what an awful setback. I am sure she is very unhappy, but at least they have it under control. Hospitals are notorious places for getting sick. Please give her our best and let her know we miss her. Thanks for telling us.

Thank you for the post to let us know about Kim's situation. Please tell her we send our best wishes and hope she is soon better and on her way home.

thank you for posting jen. people here were starting to get worried about kim.
we're glad to hear that she is feeling better and over that "bump in the road" to recovery. please send her our best and hope she feels better with each new day,
sylvia

Sorry Kim had this setback, but it does appear to be fortunate that she was still in the hospital and the problem could be attacked quickly. We pray for her recovery now to be smooth and complete.

I'll be watching for news that Kim is on the way home. I know this hasn't been the scenario she hoped for but at least the infection is being treated and her valve wasn't involved. I hope it is smooth sailing for her here on out.

Jen:

Thanks for the info about your sister. Some folks here were concerned and were about to send out an APB about her. That shows you how much we follow progress of others here. No one's a stranger for long!

I'm sure that Kim is tiring of daily TV, hospital routine and wanting to be home ASAP.
Am sure the antibiotics will zap those microbes and she'll be back home before she knows it now.

Thanks for posting!

Thanks for posting!

Dear Jen - Thanks so much for posting this update on Kim. I've been checking here at least a couple times a day to see if there was any news of Kim. I'm so sorry that she has had this setback but glad that her medical team is on top of the situation. My thoughts and prayers are with Kim and all her/your family as you go through this challenging time. Seeing you all surrounded in loving, healing light.

I think I know how she feels. She'll get so tired of being in the hospital for so long, but it's the BEST place for her until they say she's ready. Our thoughts are with her too, but I'm glad she's recovering.
