When I was sharing my motel room at Cleveland with my sister prior to my surgery.....she had a ritual at bedtime which included....
(hour before bedtime) celestial seasonings...sleepytime tea
washed face with dove calming night time soap
sprayed the healing garden zzzzztherapy on her
when i was asking her at what point did she lose her childlike desire to jump on thebed with me ....she just said shhhhhhhhhh....go to sleep debbi......'we' have a big day tomorrow...i wanted to slap her but she was already asleep.
i spent the rest of the night wondering how 'she' was going to have a big day when i was the one having surgery.
i swear she didn't move one time all night. ....trust me i would know.!

bionic bob, if drugs don't work, try sex. lots of sex. if that doesn't work, imagine the marshall - university of tennessee football game this fall...surely to be a sleeper! your fellow vols buddy, debbi (go vols)(go herd)

Debbi,

LOL! Funny story about your sister.

As for "lots of sex," heck, if I could get lots of that, I wouldn't worry about not sleeping. ;)

Your divided loyalties at the Vols versus Marshall game may present a color scheme problem for you -- you going to be wearing orange and green? Do those colors match? :D :)

Go Vols! (I see their opening practice was scrubbed by a massive thunderstorm last week. Hope that's not a bad omen.)

Hi Bob. I'm sorry that you're having trouble falling asleep. It's 4am and I seem to be having trouble staying asleep. My Atenolol brings on just whoppers of dreams. Sometimes, they go on so long that I think something in me wants them to just stop, so they turn into nightmares and wake me up! Thus the one this morning......just didn't want to drift back into the scene I was running from!!! So here I am!

Hey. There are some great suggestions, here. I think Mtn may be onto something, seriously. In the meantime..go to your local Costco and look at a NEW MATTRESS!! My husband and I treated ourselves to a magnificent thing last January (well, we couldn't get away for that 25th anniversary jaunt because I was so slowed down) and it's the best thing we've ever done! It's too middle of the night for me to try to remember exactly what it is, but it does have a layer of that memory foam on top. Not like the temper-pedic ones (they are apparently very warm beds since you sink into them and they surround you....I get too warm in bed already (Ross, leave that alone!) so those weren't for me.) This one is very dense, though and does have some of those shape hugging properities. I have never fallen asleep so well. I love this bed!! Frankly, I sleep a lot more than I ever did, too. And through recovery it has just been wonderful. We searched high and low for the one we thought was the best, bought it at a very good discount, and then discovered (of course) that Costco was selling the same brand!!

If that isn't feasable, maybe you could get a new mattress pad that has some of that memory foam in it. They run upwards of $100, I think, but certainly cheaper than a new mattress.

OR, if that isn't possible, go get some huge soft squishy pillows. We bought King size pillows. Buy several shapes and sizes. Then plump yourself into bed really nicely. If you can sleep on your side, put one behind your back for support, hug one lightly, get one good and scrunched behind your head, try one between your knees.

Maybe your head is fine and the rest of your body is complaining! ;)

Just another thought.

Good luck!! Wishing you some heavenly sleep filled nights!

Marguerite

For whatever reason, I slept better last night -- almost a full night's sleep!

Maybe it was the image in my mind of Mary standing in the doorway with a big teacher's ruler in her hand, commanding "Stop thinking! Stop thinking! Turn off your mind right now, you hear?" :D :D :D

Seriously, I appreciate each and every one of the suggestions made in this thread, and I will keep thinking about them all (except of course when I go to bed, when I will stop thinking :)

I told you Bob!

I had to use the same trick last night when the Lasix woke me up from a sound sleep!
Once I got back in bed I said to myself, "Myself, quit thinking." It did take about 10 minutes, but it worked!;) ;)

Mary, what he failed to tell you was that you had a ruler, but also spike heels and a black leather boustier. Or maybe not, that could have kept him awake.:D

Yikes! Mary, say it ain't so, or I'll NEVER sleep!   :p :p :p

Karlynn,
Close, but no cigar!
It's not a ruler; it's a pointer!

(picture of me is when I was still in my prime):p :p
That keep you awake, Bob?:p :p :p
