I am now 5 months post surgery for aortic valve replacement. I am still very tired and I still experience discomfort in my chest (not related to surgical recovery). My legs and feet fall asleep often, which I don't remember happening before the surgery. I don't really feel bad--but I don't feel good either. Any thoughts?

Don't give up. Get it checked out. If not heart related, don't go nut over it. Many of us here report feeling just fantastic a month down the road. It took me about 10 months to get to some version of normal. It's about a year and a half now, and I still know that I'm not who (or is is whom?) I was before. Make the best of what/who you are now.
I know you weren't looking for a philisophical answer, but life's like that sometimes.

After my last surgery I did not really feel like my old self for about a year. Like you, I did not feel bad, just not good. It did eventually get better and now I am great most of the time.
Please talk to your doctor about your symptoms just to make sure there isn't something to be fixed. Other than that, just try to be patient.

Hi, I am almost 1 year post op AVR and still don't feel that I am back where I was, but I feel pretty good most of the time. I am finding that exercise is the key for me, the days that I do some form of exercise I feel much better.. Hope this helps.. Rose

If you're not in cardiac rehab, I strongly suggest trying to get into it. I found it to be a godsend.

As for the feet & legs falling asleep - are you sitting in your recliner too much? I'm not trying to be funny - but sometimes if you're at the wrong angle this will happen.
