I had a tooth extracted last Nov and took 1000mg of Amox before. Implant procedure for the tooth is this Thurs and that Dr wants 2000mg 1 hr before. It all sound normal to me since they are worried about infection around the heart.

I wasn't told about coumadin til after the surgery either. I would still choose a mechanical and I have been a real cry baby about coumadin in the past. Maybe I've grown up a bit but I've learned it's not that bad. I truly believe it's better than another operation.... yes I know it can fail...

5 days after surgery (when I was released from the hospital) I traveled 5 Hrs to get home. 3 weeks later I traveled 5 Hrs back for a check-up. The only condition was that I didn't do the driving. He still wanted a pillow on my chest, and I did too.

Joseph, Like you, I'm not crazy about coumadin....except for the fact that it keeps me alive. I prefer to get thru a lot of 'grand children years' without a stroke or tipping over. Good luck.
