I've been browsing the net this morning comparing valves - it all started when I noticed the Sorin Bicarbon valve (which Jim has) is different from all the other bileaflet mechanical valves out there (I think) in that the leaflets are curved rather than straight.

So anyway, I came across this photo gallery. If you'd asked me this morning how many different valves there were I would have said maybe 20 or 30. Wrong!!!

140!!! And counting!!!

Interesting Website

Gemma, thanks for posting that website. It was interesting to listen to the heart sounds (and hear mine, yikes!), as well as seeing the other types of valves (there are almost too many, a little overwhelming!).
Did anyone else look at the results section? As admirable as I find their honesty, I also wonder if they ever rush anyone home so they can keep their numbers looking good (for average length of stay). Probably not, but it still makes me wonder....
