The following was gleaned from the WSJ, 4/1/03. Pharmacia announced the results of a clinical trial with 6600 patients using a new drug called eplerenone (Brand name - Inspra) This drug is used to treat patients with heart failure. The trial showed that patients experienced 15% less mortality than those with a past heart attack using other competitive medications. These patients also showed less deaths from heart disease and shorter hospital stays. The article was not very clear, but it appears that the new drug was used IN ADDITION to an Ace inhibitor and a beta blocker.
