We all know that the half life of Coumadin is about 3 days. Therefore, any dosage change will not absolutely affect the INR for about 3 days. What about the half life of Vitamin K? If one consumes an excess of vitamin K in one meal, for example a big salad, how long until the INR is affected?

Hello and welcome!

Most of us find that Coumadin is very individualized. Al, our veteran and very helpful member and pharmacist should be along soon to answer your question.

From my personal experience home testing enables me to experiment. Have seen major swings in my Coumadin within 24-48 hours. I also metabolize the medication faster than usual...so I may not be a good example.

If I were to take a guess, if you ate cabbage last night, your levels would be effected with 24 hours. Cabbage is one of those foods that are high in K.
