The lead article in March 20 JAMA is entitled " Cognitive Outcome
After Off-Pump and ON-Pump Coronary Bypass Graft Surgery: A Randomized Trial"
The conclusion is......"Patients who received their first CABG surgery without cardiopulmonary bypass had improved cognitive outcomes 3 months after the procedure, but the effects were limited and became negligible at 12 months."

There is a lengthy editorial comment discussing this paper
and the controversies of bypass effect on the brain .

Off-Pump

Off-Pump

That's interesting Marty...My husband had off-pump quad CABG in August/2001 and my aortic valve replacement + CABGx2 was on-pump in May/1998. His recovery went alot quicker than mine, but his memory is no better..lol. I write notes for both of us...Thanks for that interesting info.
