I've just noticed on my bathroom scales which measure weight and body mass index a warning [quote: Do not use if you have a pacemaker or other internal medical device]. I will be having AVR with either a St Judes or on-x valve does this mean I wont be able to use my scales after the op? Are there any other things like this that I can"t use ......Mary

The valves are mechanical, not electronic, so you should have no problems with your scales. My scales measure fat/fluid etc too and I have two mechancial valves and no problems. I did beep at airport security once. :)

I just checked to wording in the instructions which came with my scales and it is exactly the same. They also say a mild electrical signal is sent through the body. As I said, I have been using mine with no problems at all. I am pretty sure it is only devices with batteries which might be affected..
