Minimally invasive AVR- incision length poll?

Had my surgery 7 weeks ago tomorrow, but my incision is about 4 inches long. Not sure if it will shorten as it heals. In the stage of itching pretty bad right now and chest muscles have been very sore. Dr told me that the mini-sternotomy will actualy make your chest heal slower, they have to...

    Update on me!

Jackie, Glad to hear it and glad to hear the views about the next surgery. I picked a tissue valve @ 51 with the idea that that procedure would be much more commonplace by the time I would need a 2nd surgery.

    Laid off

That is correct. At the time you add on to your wife's coverage, then drop your COBRA, have the Company that is providing your COBRA coverage provide you with a Certificate of Credible Insurance Coverage. Your wifes insurance carrier will ask for that ehen you submit any kind of claim that...

50 and healthy but just told mild to moderate aortic stenous due to biscupsid valve

GatorSurfer, My situation is similar to you. I was only diagnosed 3 years ago in October with a bicuspid valve, at age 48, but stenosis was already showing on the valve. My cardio at the time told me that I would be 5 -10 years from surgery. During that time I sold a business, relocated to a...

No need to apologize. Still cold here too, so no riding for the last few days. But, Most of Dec & an are in the 40's so she'll be back at it in a few days. I'd bet I know your husbands family, most people in Waukegan know of our family. My grandfather was band director at Waukegan high...

1st followup appt with surgeon today

We just moved to Tn in Aug 0f 2009. I lived in Waukegan/Gurnee my whole life before that, was just ready to get out of there. Had an Insurance Agency in Gurnee for 25 years and was ready for a change, so we sold out and moved here. Absolutely love it here. Know Anita very well, Stephanie...

1st followup appt with surgeon today

Pretty much the same advice I heard from the Dr & his PA! But, they did tell me it's too cold to walk outside here, so it's either Wal-Mart or the treadmill for awhile. Should be released to return to work the 1st week of January.

1st followup appt with surgeon today

Hunter/jumper. Our High School here actually has an equestrian team, but my daughter didn't join. She rides at a different barn and is in the process of taking a retired racing thoroughbred and turning him into a hunter/jumper. Plus, my surgeon only moved to town last March. His daughter is...

1st followup appt with surgeon today

Met with my surgeon this morning for the first time since I was released from the hospital the 2nd time two weeks ago. Everything looks to be where he is comfortable. A bit of fluid on my left lung per the chest x-ray but not enough to treat. Heart rate is about 102. He changed a couple of...

Back Home and ready to rest.

Congrats. I am 3 weeks out from the same thing. I can say that pulling out the central line was a bit more painful than the catheder, but neither was all that bad. Best advice I can give is to listen to your body. When it tells you it's time to rest, listen. Push yourself a bit more each...

Quick info/advice on metoprolol B-blocker "cold turkey", pls!

I'm on 50 mg of metoprolol 3x/day out of the hospital. But, no coumidin, just aspirin and Plavix. Heart rate has been in the 110 range since I've been home. I hope that when I go back next week he'll start adjusting this down. Prior to surgery i was on Micardis HCT 80/12.5 for High BP.

Norm's Story so far, starting with recovery

My PCP has had absolutely no role in this at all. Didn't even stop in to see me while an inpatient. i am supposed to go see him at 5 weeks after discharge only because the CT that was done pre-op showed an enlarged prostate. I also have not seen my cardio yet, see him 1/4. He will release me...
