To all those who recently had surgery...

I am 6 weeks out. My scar turned pink in the last week, it was just white before. It is also less swollen looking. The bump at the top part of my sternum is much less swollen. At 4 weeks I passed out and got an ambulance ride to the hospital. I ended up having my gallbladder removed...

After your surgery, what are some of the things that you found out that surprised you

Things that surprised me... 1) That ice chips were so amazing 2) The Foley catheter didn't bother me one bit 3) My husband combed my hair, brushed my teeth, gave me mouthwash and washed my face about 24 hours after my surgery, while I was sitting in a chair. 4) I remember the OR (I requested to...

Naomi's avr is tomorrow, Sept. 1. Best wishes from all of us!

I made it! I ended up with the full sternotomy because my anatomy was a little twisted and would have been too hard with the smaller incision. I got a St. Jude Regent valve. The surgeon said it was definitely time to get it done. There was more heart enlargement than we had realized and he...

    It's a date!

Thanks! :smile2: I'm going mechanical. Not sure which one, I know my surgeon prefers St. Jude's. He did tell me he will use whatever I want though... decisions, decisions!

Well I have a date! September 1st. I'm feeling very okay with everything. Trying not to think negative scared thoughts. That doesn't help anybody. I just keep telling myself I WILL feel better after all is said and done. I'm scheduled for minimally invasive aortic valve replacement. My...

How to choose a good doctor to manage your INR?

Luana, Yes I have a cardiologist now and feel like we have a good "relationship". I actually haven't seen my family practice doctor in a couple years...I almost never get sick and I go to the Gyn for my yearly checkups.... so I guess what I'm saying is I would trust my cardiologist to take care...

My scar at 7 weeks 2 days

Your scar looks good! Thank you for posting pictures... it helps to see it in "real" life. Honestly it has been one of the things I've been putting out of my mind, trying not to worry about it, but when all is said and done I really don't want a scar but if I have to have one I want one that...

How to choose a good doctor to manage your INR?

How about a cavewoman? That's hilarious! What should I ask my doc? How many patients they manage? Should I just try to find an INR clinic? I would want to do self testing and have a bit of control over my dosage so would I just need to wait until I'm stable-ish before I can do that? Or...

Why is this choice so difficult?

LOL! The marriage statement was my own. I just meant if you wanted to get out of having to take coumadin it would not be an easy thing to do. Kind of like most divorces. I wouldn't know from personal experience I have been happily married to a wonderful man for the last 10 years and have no...

How to choose a good doctor to manage your INR?

Since there are so many bad docs out there how does one find a good doc who knows what the heck they are doing? I would hate to have to find out the hard way. Also is this usually a family doc, cardiologist or other?
