I'm back ... but for other reasons

Well, hi everybody. I haven't been on here for a very long time. Had my Ross back in Feb 2011 and my heart had been pumping along beautifully. Then, in January this year this year my husband and I separated. I had no idea he was unhappy (nor that he was having an affair), found out in a...

    Kidney problem? Just not fair

Not sure if this is the best forum, but we'll see. I'm two years post-op, all that's going swimmingly. Saw my GP this morning for a review of a blood test I had last week which was testing for allergic reaction (couldn't find anything). Full blood work showed increased creatinine levels (kidney...

Second anniversary ... and all is well

Hi all! I haven't posted for months ... but keep an eye on the forums. It was the second anniversary of my Ross Procedure on 22 February. So many friends say to me "Oh, that's gone so fast", but in many ways to me, it hasn't gone quickly at all. It's actually been quite a long process. Because I...

    Scar 22 months on ...

Hi all, thought I'd show off my scar 22 months on. I'm pretty happy with how it looks. Just the battle of keeping it safe in the sun now that summer is almost here ... So if anybody is stressing about what their scar will look like ... most do fade with time. I've been lucky. Am listening to the...

Life can be really unfair ... epilepsy ...

So, 16 months since my Ross Procedure yesterday. Life is going along swimmingly. Family is well and healthy, I'm exercising, work is good. I am putting up with the fact that I have 'mild', well-controlled epilepsy as well as my heart issues. I have occasional 'absences' where I zone out, but I...

Might be inappropriate ... but any donations welcome ...

Hi all, Sorry if this is inappropriate. The Heart Foundation in Australia runs a campaign called Jump Rope for Heart every year, which encourages children to have people sponsor them skipping at school to raise money. My daughter Sophie is 10 and in Grade 4 and is, pardon the pun, skipping her...

    Botox ... any opinions?

Ok, this is going to sound incredibly vain given what we've all been through and going through ... but ... I have for years HATED my deep frown lines. And I figure that now I'm 15 months post-surgery, feeling good and exercising regularly, I'm entitled to treat myself to Botox injections. My GP...

    Coming to US tomorrow!

Well, nearly 13 months post-surgery and tomorrow morning my husband, 10yo daughter and I jump on a plane and head to the West Coast, visiting Disneyland, LA, SF, Yosemite, Vegas and Grand Canyon. Now ... just how cold are SF and Yosemite at this time of year??? Were we silly to come now? I'm not...

    My first anniversary!

Wow. A year ago I was on the operating table. Today I've given myself the day off work, been for a walk, and my husband and I are heading off to lunch at a local yacht club overlooking Port Phillip Bay on a glorious summer day in Melbourne. Ain't life grand? Hang in there everybody who's waiting...

Feeling down ... hate these mood swings ...

I know, I know, I know. I SHOULD be on top of the world. Delighted that my surgery went well 10 months ago. Thrilled that it's all behind me (for now). That my recovery went well. That I can exercise. That my family is healthy. And I am. But every now and then, like today, I feel BLAH! It's...

Seven month mark - positive visit to surgeon

Well, seven months today and had an echo and my appt with Peter Skillington. He was very happy with me. Pre surgery my aortic valve was 0.6cm. With my pulmonary valve now in that spot, the valve room is 2.1cm, so he said the blood was flowing through very well.:D My heart is also coping well...

    First 'fun walk' post surgery

I had my Ross Procedure surgery nearly seven months ago. Today my husband and 9yo daughter joined me on a 4.2k walk to raise money for the Heart Foundation. We kept a good pace walking along Melbourne's Yarra River on a beautiful spring morning. Did the walk in just under 44min. Am thinking I'll...

Funny the people you meet ... in the bra fitting room ...

I'd been meaning to buy a new bra since my surgery nearly six months ago ... but had avoided being properly fitted as I couldn't be bothered dealing with a 19-yo assistant all curious about my scar. I finally did it yesterday - and the woman helping me check my bra size hadn't changed was...

    Coming to the US!

My husband, 9yo daughter and I are planning a trip to the States in March next year. We'll fly into LA, head to Disneyland for a few nights, a couple in LA, drive to San Fran, then to Yosemite and the Grand Canyon, then back to LA. Any suggestions of where we should go or stay VERY welcome...

    Tingly ouchy scar

Fourteen weeks post-surgery tmw and all is well. I wonder though if anybody else has experienced ouch/tingles in their incisions? Most of my scar is not painful, but right at the top has become very sensitive just in the past week or so. I gently massage various oils into it, as recommended by...

    Positive visit with cardio today

It's 11 weeks tomorrow since my Ross Procedure. I saw my cardio this afternoon and he's happy with everything. BP good - 110/70. ECG fine. Heartbeat fine. Everybody happy:o Both he and my surgeon want me to have an echo in August, which will be six months post-surgery. I told my cardio I'm...

Ten weeks post-op ... bit miserable, bit sorry for myself ...

.. with no good excuse really. A couple of weeks ago I was feeling just fine, pretty lively, smiling at strangers as I walked along the beach. The past few days, I've been tired when I wake up as well as at night (even though I drop off to sleep ok), not particularly motivated to walk although I...

Eight-week visit with surgeon - positive

Hi all, I saw my surgeon, Peter Skillington, on Monday. He is happy with my progress. He wants an echo in six months, and then another 12-months post-surgery, to check if there's any leakage in either the new aortic or pulmonary valves. Now, I think I have this right: his data shows that of his...
