I take mine with lunch around noon. Don't think it really matters as long as you remember to take them every day. I have other pills in the morning and evening...so I take the warfarin and lipitor at noon.

My surgery was a number of years ago...but I was not offered any choice of valve. St. Jude's is what they used and were comfortable with. If I wanted something different I would have to go elsewhere. The valve has been working well for nearly 14 years.

Valve replacement was first discussed when I was 10...had AVR surgery at age 50.

I have never home tested but go to the lab at the Dr. office once a month. Take generic warfarin. Have not had any problems in the 10+ years I have taken it. It has been a total non-issue.

It was ten years ago this week that I had my aortic valve replaced with a St Judes mechanical valve. The time has gone fast and the 10 years have been mainly uneventful. Still have leakage around the suture line in the mild to moderate category that may require a second surgery one day...

Still use a blade for shaving. Get a nick once in a while...but it has never caused any bleeding issues. Actually...have never had any bleeding issues in the 10+ years I've been on warfarin. It is pretty much a non-issue for me.

I have been taking it for the 9/12 years since my surgery. Have never had any issues in taking it.

I agree with Steve. I had a very rapid and uncomplicated recovery. I was home in 6 days...started rehab a week later. Started driving again at 3 weeks...and went back to work in 6 weeks. There was occasional pain and discomfort the first few weeks...but nothing requiring any special visits...

AVR surgery 8 years ago today. Am still doing well and the leaking around the suture line has diminished over the last several years. The surgery was truly a miracle for me.

Hope you get good news. I developed fairly significant leaking at the suture line about 4 years after my surgery. It appeared I was headed for another surgery. Fortunately, over the last 4 years the leaking has decreased quite a bit...so things are good again. I never had any symptoms during...

I am a retired federal employee...but was still working in 2003 when I had my AVR surgery. BC&BS covered everything in fine fashion.
