Having anxiety, my first PV replacement...at age 30

Late to post but just want to shout out and say Hi. I too, am a TOF kid and I had my first PV last year at the age of 31. I perceived myself as asymptomatic and my attitude going into my surgery was one of deep-seated anxiety buried under denial. I think I may have had an easier immediate...

    Staying the Course -- 01-30-2017

Laos in SE Asia it is! Absolutely beautiful here, I love mountainous terrain, it's so green, and not too hot right now (it was hotter back in Queensland). Fortunately the tourism trade here has been cleaned up in the past decade after gaining a bad rep for wild, unchecked partying. I have found...

    excessive yawning

This is interesting. I always called myself a-symptomatic but I have had a decrease in yawning since my surgery and definitely feel less tired (and I was already the most energetic person most people know - eek!).

    Staying the Course -- 01-30-2017

Hi everybody! Long time, no post. This week I stayed the course by going rock climbing... twice! Currently on holiday in Laos and have not really been staying the course at alllll. Street food, beer, and the croissants here are too good to pass up. I have been craving a good workout and/or run...

AVR surgery scheduled in 3 days! ANY AND ALL ADVICE WELCOME!!!!

Just catching up now, too. My thoughts are with you Julie but I agree with the general consensus that he has done you a favour. There needs to be a relationship of mutual trust and respect between the surgeon and patient. Here's to finding someone great who is willing to listen to your concerns.

AVR surgery scheduled in 3 days! ANY AND ALL ADVICE WELCOME!!!!

This is how I "cured" my rampant indiciveness in general. When the choice has been taken from you, what you want becomes clear.

AVR surgery scheduled in 3 days! ANY AND ALL ADVICE WELCOME!!!!

Hi Julie, I am 31 and had a pulmonary valve replacement in July this year (a little different but similar recovery). I mulled over this choice for years and had privately decided to have a tissue valve which turned out to be he option my surgeon presented to me. Now that I have physically...

    sternum wires

The bumps are definitely stationary underneath the scar. Starts right at the top and they are at regular intervals the whole way down.

Glad to hear it went well, Warwick!

    sternum wires

I have some quite protrusive bumps happening along my scar line now and a couple of them are intermittently irritating. What is considered "normal" as far as this goes? My previous incision line had some bumpiness but this time around is definitely markedly worse. I am fairly lean so just...

    Staying the Course -- 11-21-2016

Happy Staying the Course, everybody! Great news, Bob! I have been getting lazy and I can tell because I just feel a bit "blergh" so I have decided to become a little stricter with forcing myself up out of bed - starting this morning. Nice little 5km run but it is soooo hot here already!

    Staying the Course -- 11-07-2016

Aww I was looking forward to that article giving me a righteous excuse! I definitely get rewards from exercising although I still hate it. I am an inherently lazy person so some of my motivational and bribery tactics can be interesting. I just ran 5km and that's all I have done so far this...

    Staying the Course -- 10-31-2016

Hi everybody! Crossing fingers and toes for scans bringing good news for Bob and Steve. I had a slow start this week but yesterday morning I did a Crossfit session that has me clutching at my abs and quads in pain as I walk up and down my stairs and then I put in a slow but relatively...

    Staying the Course -- 10-24-2016

I have had one encounter with snow my life - a few days whilst I was trekking in the Himalayas. This Queensland girl lost her mind over it! I always talk about preferring colder climates and as things start to ramp up towards Summer here I get stressed about the oncoming heat and humidity. I...

    2x metoprolol 25mg and 1x amlodipine 2.5mg daily

I feel like a really bad person right now but I have confession. I was prescribed Metoprolol with no current end date but accidentally stopped taking it simply by consistently forgetting. Oops! I would seem to remember every couple of days and then I realised a while back that weeks passed...

When did you start feeling ok?

I would make an awesome Wiggle! I can't sing or dance (even though I do those things anyway) but have the right type of energy in spades.

When did you start feeling ok?

I am having a moment. I am about to start my bar shift at my second job after working all day at my first job. I am in an excellent mood and literally bouncing around. No, actually I am bouncing around. I went for a run last night. You could say I am feeling pretty great. More than okay. I...

    Anxiety

I deal with anxiety by listening to music (big metal fan actually), writing in my journal (just creative musings for me not necessarily "dear diary" type stuff), getting outdoors where I can breathe preferably near a body of water, and good old fashioned talking - which you have just done. I...
