    Activities during at-home recovery

after my surgery they gave me a schedule for when and how much i should be walking. they pretty much want you to be moving and gradually increasing over time. by the end of the first week i think i needed to be walking 15-20 minutes 3x's a day. my surgery was in november so it rained a bit...

Question about post mitral valve repair and still having regurgitation...

my surgeon told me he was very satisfied with the repair. he said it should last my entire lifetime and no further need of repair. i'm not sure if he's saying this cause my chords ruptured and other than this, there is no other evidence of degeneration or damage. i was in a car accident when i...

Question about post mitral valve repair and still having regurgitation...

thanks for the words of encouragement. yeah i was feeling a bit down cause the thought of having to do another surgery bums me out. i was also thinking that needing a full on replacement would kind of suck too so i can use some insight/input from people with repairs and how long they last.

12 days post-op. Need headache relief NOW!

fwiw i spoke to a neurologist and it's not uncommon to have headaches or migraines post OHS. i was getting migraines with aura's after the first couple months. she assured me it could very well be a temporary thing and sure enough it went away in a couple days. i haven't had any ever since...

Question about post mitral valve repair and still having regurgitation...

Hi all. So I just went in for my 3 month (ended up close to 4 mos after scheduling it) last week. I was super stoked to come in and talk to my cardio about my latest echo done on 2/28. When I got there, he told me everything looked great. My EF went up from 52% after my surgery to 56% now. He...

Low Systolic BP and High Diastolic BP question...

thanks paleogirl. after reading this i found some other articles that suggest when to take BP readings cause of how mich they fluctuate. one article says take them in the mornings or evenings while rested. taking them during the day while you're out and about is really not a good indication of...

Low Systolic BP and High Diastolic BP question...

do you remember how high it was before it dropped to 80-90's? i'm curious is this is a result of the surgery and could resolve itself over time? i did a bunch of reading about this and found we should be taking our BP reading sitting or laying down. anyone know if this is true? theres a...

Low Systolic BP and High Diastolic BP question...

anyone else have issues with low systolic BP but high diastolic BP? i notice it's usually this way when i'm standing most of the time. i guess i'm more "borderline" at low 100's over 85-90 but i'm curious. btw, when i went in to see my cardio i was at 98/80. he said i can up my salt but doesn't...

Strong emotions at post operative visit

let me first by stating i'm a 43 year old male. i was the last person to expect to be hit with all kinds of emotions i felt after my mitral valve repair in nov 2015. i remember getting home and then thinking how on earth did this happen, could this be real, you name it i felt it. i also...

    Struggling with limits

if it were me, id get the surgery done asap. then you can tell your son to wait about a year for you to heal and THEN go do the trip. it'll be more meaningful to do this after you've recovered.

help me make some sense of this please...

good to know juliendu. yeah i guess it was expecting it to not leak anymore but i guess that isn't what i should be expecting. i find out on 3/2 how much it's actually leaking and it's sucks to have to wait so long.

help me make some sense of this please...

i just had my 3 month echo. the technician told me my EF was at 57% (up from 52% two week post op). i was happy for that for sure. but when she started to use the doppler i noticed that there was some regurgitation. i asked about it and she said there was some. i asked if it was trace, mild...

Cardiac Catheterization on Feb 18th...what should I expect?

i was told it's done cause *IF* there was any finding of coronary disease they would also plan to do a bypass or graft while they're in there. it would also automatically make it a mandatory sternotomy.
