    Right thoracotomy

Thanks Blair. I’m just 5 weeks post-op and get the impression that this pain is going to be around for some time. I assume also it’s muscles and nerves. And being female, the pain is located in my right chest just below the surface of the skin. Even my clothes touching the skin makes it hurt. My...

    Right thoracotomy

I was thinking of something like Aleve; of course you're right epstns - ibuprofen is an NSAID. I get so confused: ibuprofen, acetaminophen, aspirin, what the differences between them are. My doctor said 2400 mg max per day for two weeks, then reduce it to 1800 mg max per day. I've actually been...

    Right thoracotomy

Thanks Linda. I'm using ibuprofen and it doesn't seem to be enough. I'm going to ask my doctor about trying an NSAID.

    Right thoracotomy

Anyone here had a right thoracotomy, and if so how long did you have muscle and nerve pain just below the surface of the skin?

Any gals here who had a right mini thoracotomy?

Thanks for your reply, Linda. It seems most people have the full sternotomy so I was wondering if the pain from a right mini thoracotomy is different. I suppose both are similar as far as internal pain. My pain now is just below the top surface of the right breast even though the incision is...

Any gals here who had a right mini thoracotomy?

I underwent surgery on August 22nd to have my mitral valve repaired. A few days later an echo and TEE showed there was still leakage. I underwent a second surgery on September 2nd for re-repair. The surgeon went back in through the same incision. I feel like the pain from both surgeries hit me...

    What a journey!

I arrived at Cleveland Clinic on August 19th, 2014. Three days of pre-op tests, cardiac catheterization, and consult with surgeon. Surgery was on August 22nd. My mitral valve was repaired and deemed to be not leaking immediately following surgery. I couldn’t have asked for better news than that...

Hello, new here. MVR, scheduled for August surgery at Cleveland Clinic.

Nupur, I'm not sure how they measure increased lung pressure. I just know on my last echo something indicated it because it was the first time my cardiologist ever mentioned it. I wish I knew what all my numbers are. I've read the echo and TEE reports more than once and most of it is too...

Hello, new here. MVR, scheduled for August surgery at Cleveland Clinic.

Thanks for your post Blair. Sounds like you're doing well. I'm hoping for a repair; don't like the thought of having to be on blood thinners for the rest of my life. And I'm really hoping that my surgery and recovery will be a textbook case. I've been reading too much I think and am afraid of...

Hello, new here. MVR, scheduled for August surgery at Cleveland Clinic.

Thanks Nupur, There are so many things to weigh in making this decision. I've known I had mitral valve prolapse since I was a kid but I honestly don’t know when the mitral regurgitation started. I'm now 58. My cardiologist has been monitoring it closely through echoes and TEEs over the past 6...

Hello, new here. MVR, scheduled for August surgery at Cleveland Clinic.

Glad I found this group! Wondering how many of you are/were asymptomatic but made the decision to go ahead with surgery. I have severe mitral regurgitation, slightly enlarged left atrium, elevated lung pressures, but basically feel OK. I know it's a waiting game, not knowing when or how long...
