    Two years on Sep 13th!

Hi everyone! So sorry for not checking in more. It's been two years for me now with my ticker. I am so glad for my decision two years ago. My two boys are both in college. My wife was laid off last year and is now in college as well. If I didn't go thru with the surgery I feel I would'nt be for...

Worried I'm not getting any closer to valve selection with less than 1 week to go

It's been about 20 months since my sergery. My inr stays in range 2.0-3.0 if I just stay away from a few things. Other than that I eat whatever and how much I want. I only hear mine tick if it's really quiet and I lean forward in a chair. I did second guess my decision many times because I feel...

    Recent BAV diagnosis

Hi Matt. I was 44 when I had my valve replaced. I found out a few years eirlier. I totally freaked out!! Its been 17 months with my on-x valve. It was not a fun surgery but not as bad as I thought. Really my life is back to the way it was. I try to be careful now. I just went to Hawaii and hiked...

On-X Valve Study - Updated (sorry if its been posted already)

Wow thanks for the post. I stay at 2.0 -2.2 inr most of the time. I have worried that it might be safer for me to keep my inr higher but it seems to fluctuate a lot more when I try to keep it in the mid 2's. Often going above 3. It would be great to safely stay at 2.

Ice Hockey w/ mech valve / warfarin

I agree. I just try to be a little extra careful with everything I do now. Try and reduce the risk. I use a helmet now when I ride my bike. I where gloves if I am hiking in a really rough and rocky area. Things I should have been doing before. I just try to think and be a little more careful. I...

    Mid-Twenties Aortic Valve Replacement

I am glad to hear that things are still good. Although I don't think I would want to wait a year for another check up. When things start to go bad they tend to speed up. You want to catch things before they go to far. If you decide to wait a year before your next check up then be on the look out...

1 month post op clinic appointment....

Hi Sarah. I'm sorry that things arn't as great as they could be for you. It is still early after your last surgery and I hope to see you improve more as time goes on. Just take it easy and take care of yourself. I think your consultant is trying to give you good advice to only have one more...

    Don’t do things by half’s :P

Sarah, I'm so glad your past the worst of it. I'm very sorry you are having such a hard time now. I was getting worried about you. Take it easy and I'm sure you'll be feeling so much better soon.

    INR Unstable

Hi kristen. I agree with the others. If my inr dips I usually make a one time 1/2 dose adjustment to get me back in range. I have also been running more so I have been taking that extra 1/2 dose once a week, every week for about a month now. For me, I like to be in control of my inr. I have been...

First attempt at running since surgery

I like to run a 5k almost every day. I am still very slow compared to you, but I can tell you what worked for me. Try to do the whole 5k now. Dont run the whole thing. Just set a pace that you can finish. If you need to walk than walk. Soon you will be getting faster with the same heart rate and...

In case of Zombie Apocalypse, natural alternative to warfarin/aspirin? Just for fun

I asked my doctor to write a script for a double dose so I could cut them in half and save money. She just wrote "dose per clinic" on the script. I don't need to reorder but I am going to get a few months worth before I only order what I need. It's a pain to go on vacation with only a few days...
