Endocarditis - Enterococcus faecalis - On-x Valve (tiny vegetation) - NEED INPUT!

Just a quick update. I got off the antibiotics on Dec 21st - *Merry Xmas*- Did blood cultures a week later - came back negative. Took the picc line out a week later, took another set of cultures, and they came back negative as well. Now, the game plan is to perform the TEE again by Dr. Martin...

Dental Care ~ 1st appointment to the denist in a month, previous endo, worried!

Hi Sash, I would go for regular cleaning - and make sure you tell the Dentist that you do not want deep - gum cleaning. Of course, no matter which route you go - take the antibiotics (usually amox 4 tablets 500 mg each) .. My dentist recommends twice a year .. just not worth the risk.. my .02 :)

Welcome to the On-X family. Just take good care of yourself. You will be doing regular activity in about 2-3 weeks. Take good care of yourself! Coumadin therapy is pretty straight forward.

Endocarditis - Enterococcus faecalis - On-x Valve (tiny vegetation) - NEED INPUT!

Went and saw my Cardiothoracic surgeon (who did my AVR in 2006). He saw the TEE and said - there is nothing that concerns him. He wants me to still be on the IV antibiotics for 6 weeks, repeat blood cultures within a week and then again! He sounded quite optimistic but I am also having the TEE...

    Endocarditis and valve selection

Hi Start01, What did you end up doing? I have a mechanical aortic valve and just recently had enterococcus (very rare) that lead to Endocarditis .. I am not even sure if it is Endocarditis because heart functions / valves looks fine on echo .. once a TEE or TOE was done - the cardiologist saw a...

Endocarditis - Enterococcus faecalis - On-x Valve (tiny vegetation) - NEED INPUT!

Wow.. 9 months .. I think I have had mine for maybe 3 weeks and got treatment. Like you mentioned; the bacteria is definitely killed via antibiotics hence the 2nd blood cultures taken the next day after 1 day of antibiotics showed no growth .. The bigger question is the vegetation on the Onx...

Oh wow! Emergency redo of the AVR within a day! 70mm carpet .. Did you not feel sick before? Just one day - all of a sudden you had a 40C fever ... that is super odd. I am glad to know that you are doing well now .. I get to find out the next steps Tuesday after talking with my surgeon who did...
