Contradictory opinion on when to have mitral valve repair

dornole, mitral stenosis and regurgitation are probably treated differently. a) stenosis cannot be repaired so there is no benefit of an earlier intervention, b) in case of regurgitaion, LA takes quite a beating from the backflow and enlarges before the LV

Contradictory opinion on when to have mitral valve repair

For some doctors, LA enlargement does not factor in the guideline unless there is AF. However, others have said the LA volume being so high is a bad sign and it is not good to wait for AF. I was under the impression that surgeons are more aggressive. But the chair of cardiothoracic surgey at...

Contradictory opinion on when to have mitral valve repair

dornole, my LV function is fine which is what some doctors focus on. Others are of the opinion that the LA enlargement is sign of trouble and there is no reason to wait until LV dysfunction or AF which ever comes first.

Contradictory opinion on when to have mitral valve repair

Hi all, I was diagnosed with moderate/severe mitral regurgitation almost 10 years ago. Have been in the waiting room since then. Have been on the downward slope last few years, dealing with palpitations and lowered exercise tolerance. But my doc said it's still ok. In the last two years, my left...

Spontaneous subdural hematoma while on Warfarin at INR 3.6?

Pellicle, where did you get the chart from? Is there an age factor in this? I guess older people are more at risk of bleeding? I am not sure how the TIA was diagnosed, must be a CT scan but will ask. Maybe she should stay under 3 to be safe. Thanks!

Spontaneous subdural hematoma while on Warfarin at INR 3.6?

Hi folks, I am posting this question for a friend. Her mom has had a mech aortic valve for 10 years, on Warfarin with target INR 2.5-3.5, Recently her Warfarin dosage was increased due to TIA, and a few weeks later she had a spontaneous hematoma. I think she has had a second episode of it as...

    AliveCor ECG for iPhone

I am not having much luck using it since i posted. Had sudden dizziness with pounding heart last week, tried it twice and it said possible Afib. My doctor doesn't allow me to email things, so I sent it for analysis and the report came back saying there was too much disturbance to diagnose. Well...

    AliveCor ECG for iPhone

I am not able to upload a picture. I looked at the ECG and matched it with what I see on line and yes I can see the PVCs. Note that the App does NOT analyze PVC. It only says Afib or not. You can send your ECG to be read by someone for a fee (the first one is free, to establish a baseline). The...

    AliveCor ECG for iPhone

I got myself a AliveCor ECG device for the iPhone. Hoping to catch the transient short arrhythmia I have from time to time. Found it pretty easy to install and use. Sent me an email within an hour. They do that with the first one, subsequent ones should tell me AF or no AF. The report says I am...

    Surgery Timing?

Hi Debi, I am sorry that you are considering surgery. Is the repair not holding? I have lots of symptoms like palpitations, low exercise tolerance (can't walk uphill, flat ground is fine), I'd rather get mine repaired sooner than later but i've been told it's not time yet. I think they really...

My Story - Mitral Valve Stenosis

I have no specific advice. I am also pre surgery. I also plan to leave my son at home to travel to Cleveland from CA for surgery. Don't know how I will juggle everything! But I am sure everything will work out for you. Just wanted to wish you best of luck!

How did you deal with anxiety and depression?

I am not coping very well, so I don't have any words of wisdom for you, just understanding. I have been in the waiting room for more than 6 years, watching my health decline, always fearful, always anxious. As surgery comes nearer, it's getting worse. The worst part is the uncertainty and...

Hello, new here. MVR, scheduled for August surgery at Cleveland Clinic.

Ha! you have an eccentric jet too! I have a very eccentric jet. They always say "regurgitation at least moderate, maybe underestimated due to eccentric jet". One of them said "two eccentric jets". I figured I have a tear or something that's flopping around. In my case, my numbers don't justify...

Hello, new here. MVR, scheduled for August surgery at Cleveland Clinic.

How do they measure increased lung pressure? My echos vary quite a bit, depending on who reads it. One person writes borderline left atrium dilation, another says fine next year. I have been plotting my numbers for 6 years and the variability bothers me, but I am told the margin of error can be...
