    Aortic Dilation

HI there, You don't really have much to go on here do you, Dilation is not necessarily an aneurysm, since the former refers to size beyond normal whereas the latter refers to size about 1.5 times larger than normal - ie. about 4.5 cm. It all comes down to size really. If it is approaching 5cm...

Bicuspid finally confirmed! But new measurements to understand...?

I think the gradient is a key indicator with a stenotic valve. I have no stenosis and no gradient. Instead, I have pure regurgitation, so I guess other indicators are key for this.

Bicuspid finally confirmed! But new measurements to understand...?

Hello All, After a few years of doctors saying I probably had a bicuspid valve I have finally had it confirmed with an MRI. I understand that MRI is the 'gold standard' for measurements of the aorta, but these seem to confirm recent measurements by echo - Sov: 39mm, STJ: 32mm; Ass A: 36.5mm...

How does BAV impact wider heart and is this permanent? Experiences and views please

So, just got the results of my recent echo. And it doesn't look good, compared to last year. Seems my heart is starting to detoriate in many ways. AR remains mild, but because the jet is eccentric they can't really tell how bad it is. Aortic root - 40mm, up from 38mm a year ago STJ - 30mm, same...

    Question for men...

The operation should not cause ED. Since circulation should be improved it should have a positive effect. There is though a well established link between ED and heart diseas, but this relates to artery disease.

    Bicuspid or not Bicuspid

I'm interested to hear how you all got diagnosed with a bicuspid valve. Over the last 18 months I have had three echocardiograms. The first set of results led my cardiologist to say with some certainty that I did NOT have a bicuspid value or aortic dilation, but I did have regurgitation. He set...

    Irbesartan Medication

I am not surprised you are feeling lousy coming straight off one medication and going straight on to another. Typically, we are advised to come off beta blockers (ie atenonol) slowly and to start with ACEI or ARBs progressively. You really should have cut the former down slowly over a few weeks...

    BAV and blood pressure

From what I have read on this, as the leak gets worse the difference between the top and bottom number increases. In otherwords, the systolic gets higher and the diastolic lower. That said. I read an old medical paper on this which found that BP varied widely at different stages of the...

My story of entering the waiting room

Hi All, First off, just like to what a great resource this site is and how helpful I have found reading all your stories and messages of support. Thought it was time to share my story. I found out I had a BAV earlier this year after a few torrid years. In Sept 2011 my wife and partner of 16...
