Mechanical valves/Coumadin - Changes in Lifestyle?

Heck, I shave my HEAD with a bladed razor, and have since the day I went on Coumadin. No big deal. Couple of nicks, but they stopped bleeding fairly quickly.

    Contact lenses

I wear Acuview Oaysis disposables, and even sleep in them quite often. No issues whatsoever, and my eye doc is fully aware of my Coumadin med.

    Neurocardiology & Overcoming Depression

A topic near and dear to me, as I have struggled with depression both pre- and post-surgery. Post-surgery has also added some guilt, as someone who is "lucky to be alive" (as I am) should theoretically be happy and not depressed. Thanks for the links.

Bob is on the other side.

Hi, Bob. Glad to hear you are doing so well. I had the AVR (mechanical) and root replaced myself in April, and had similar feelings about feeling more confident in the mechanical valve, even if it meant Coumadin for the rest of my life. So far, though there have been a few ups and downs on my...

    help me decide

Hi, Tim. I just had my AVR in April, with a mechanical valve. I can honestly tell you that, already, I have to really try to hear any clicking. And if the room isn't quiet, I can't hear it even if I try.

    David is over the mountain!

Tell David things WILL get better, and his memory of some of the rough spots may even "revise" history. I remember that I felt like crap, but honestly, I think my mind has blocked some of the specifics. ...or perhaps the drugs were that good. Definitely not a straight line in recovery...

Do people stare at you too?

Tattoo is a great idea. I am thinking barbed wire down the main scar, and bullet hole graphics for the drainage tube scars.

    David is over the mountain!

Nadine -- Glad to hear David is through the worst. I can relate to the "not a lot of pain, just a lot of discomfort"! Sounds like he is doing great overall. I had some bleeding, as well, but they do amazing things to get that under control. And I still use my heart pillow. Some of the...

Do people stare at you too?

I rode shirtless across the finish line of a 100-mile bike ride. I wanted people to wonder what that was on my chest.:D

Road trip 2009, Illinois to California...+...places yet to go

Hi, Cort. I am an annual roadtrip guy, as well, and am leaving on my Harley this Friday for a 3000 mile tour from Michigan eventually down to the origin of the Nachez Trace in Mississippi, which we will then ride up to Nashville to visit my folks. We'll head home from there (taking the lonbg...

    Ok all you pricks...

Hmmm. My friends keep calling me that name, but I don't yet have a home-test unit. After I get one, I can just start thanking them for the compliment! Congratulations on the stable INRs.
