    Aorta: The Next Generation

Hi everybody...it's been a while since I've posted here regularly, so allow me to summarize my story: Diagnosed in June 2009 with an aortic root aneurysm - 5.1cm. No symptoms, it was caught by a very attentive PA during my annual physical OHS in October 2009 at Emory to fix - I was lucky...

    Dorsai's recovery: Day 6

Day 4,383 Update - No real update, other than to note that today is my 12th surgical anniversary. I'm still doing the once a year thing with my cardiologist, and so far no problems have popped up. Life is good!

Aortic root replacement - ten years!

Interesting, thanks for sharing your experience. Mine's been a little different so far. I've had a couple of friends have heart attacks recently, one of whom is younger than me and seemed in perfectly good health. That worried me enough that at my next regularly-scheduled cardiologist visit...

Aortic root replacement - ten years!

I'm happy to report that my aortic root replacement was performed ten years ago today by Dr. Edward Chen at Emory University here in Atlanta, and all is well. Er...as far as the aorta goes, anyway. But I just got back from a visit to my cardiologist, who informed me that my coronary plaque was...

    Dorsai's recovery: Day 6

Day 3,225 Update - Just decided to pop back in here for no particular reason, glad to see the forum is still up and running. I'm two months short of my 9th surgical anniversary, and everything has been super - if it weren't for the scars, I'd never know I'd had any work done. I still take the...

    Six years today!

Thank you! The cardiologist said everything looks good, and my older grandmother turned 100 last month (the younger one is 90)...I'm 45, so I'm hoping to come back here for the next 50 years or so. :-)

    Six years today!

Very strange that that was posted as 'Guest'; it was me. :-)

    Happy five years to me!

Five years ago this very moment, I was stretched out on an operating room table, getting an aortic root replacement to fix my aneurysm. Five years on, everything is working perfectly. Not only did Dr. Edward Chen do great work, but Emory University Hospital was fantastic as well. From aortas...

It's a go! Anyone been to Emory in Atlanta?

I had my aortic root replacement at Emory in 2009. My surgeon was Dr. Chen as well, and I would highly recommend him. I've never met Dr. Guyton so I can't speak of him one way or another, but on the whole my experience with Emory was very positive. I wouldn't hesitate to go there over flying...

    Dorsai's recovery: Day 6

I have a friend whose father may be going through valve replacement surgery, so I came back here to look at my old posts...and realized I never closed this out. So even though it's been nearly five years since my surgery, let me add on to this. Sleep remained a problem for a while. I called...

    Four years down

It's been too long since I've been here...but I wanted to come by, see how people were doing, and celebrate four good years since my surgery. I had a valve-sparing aortic root aneurysm repair on October 21, 2009. I'm happy to say that I have had zero problems since then; Dr. Edward Chen at...

A year and a week down

I'm a little late in getting back here...but 53 weeks ago today I had my aortic root aneurysm corrected by the most excellent Dr. Chen at Emory University Hospital here in Atlanta. I've been fortunate in that I have had a textbook recovery; all of my surgeon and cardiologist visits have gone...

01 Feb surgery date..a few questions

You can't go wrong with Domo by your side! Excellent choice. :)

01 Feb surgery date..a few questions

It sounds like we were in similar boats, with the exception that my AV wasn't bicuspid. At any rate, I had the valve-sparing procedure done back in October, got to keep my valve, and I've had a textbook recovery since then. Given how young you are (I just turned 40 last month and my doc kept...

    3 mo checkup

Scuba, I guess we'll be pacing each other on this stuff just about permanently. For those who don't know, he and I had work done by the same surgeon just two days apart. I had my 3 month echo with my cardiologist (Scuba, are you perhaps with CVG?) on Friday as well, and the news was all good...
