Hi,

Anyone else experience gastrointestinal distress with the beta blocker Toporol? Seems when I stop taking it everything gets better, but when I start taking it again, it's back to the bathroom. ;-)

I'm trying to determine the risk/reward of taking such a low dose (25 mg) to keep my HR 10 beats lower.

Thanks!
Mike

Yes,the "D." is a common side effect with metoprolol(Toprol),but it never
did effect me this way. If you haven't been on it for long,it may stop or
decrease on its own after you become accustomed to it.

I've been on 25 mg of Metoprolol since my surgery and I have the opposite problem. I really don't know if it's related to the drug or not. I can't wait to get off of it in any case.

Thanks, Dina! Unfortunately, I have been sporadic about taking it...thereby bringing back the side effect a few times.

I don't know which is worse. I'm sure it's whatever you have...the grass is always greener, eh? I had your issue with the pain meds.

Hi Mike, I started Toporol about a month ago. Took the pill in the morning and by lunch had the big D. This went on for over a week with no change, I asked if there would be a problem taking the meds at night, and I was told no, so that is what I did. I have not had any more D, since then! (well except for that cononoscopy)

Thank you very much for the tip. Your situation (taking the med in the am, D by mid-day) seems eerily similar to what I was (am) experiencing. Did you take with dinner? I heard that it's important to take with a meal and not on an empty stomach.

I work a 3pm to 11:30pm shift, so I usually take it with a light snack when I get home about midnight. But the nights I don't work it is at dinner time. I have had no ill effects so far.
