Beautiful post Ross

I am thankful for my new chance on life from God and the blessings he has given my family and myself, my beautiful daughter, my mom, my husband, my sister, my family and this forum

When I read your post, Ross, I thought, I am feeling so unwell that I HAVE ABSOLUTELy NOTHING TO BE THANKFUL FOR, but as I sit and think about it I find that I have. I am sooo thankful for my children, and for this site and everyone on it, oh and my little yorkshire terrier SUZIE. Thank you for reminding me! :cool:

Things I Am Thankful For:
1. That wonderful little cow who died and shared her valve with me cause without that valve I never would have had the chance to interact with everyone here on VR forum.;)
2. A husband who has been by my side through up and down and thick and thin for the last 33 years:eek:
3 Our son Justin whose quick wit and smart alec replies keep us laughing at life:cool:. And our daughter Trini who has always marched to her own drum and has kept her dad and I from getting to serious about life.:D
4. Daniel who is crazy in love with Trini and Christina who is also crazy and in love with Justin.:):)

I'm thankful for my husband, even when he makes me crazy;
I'm thankful for my dogs, even when they pester me, and squish me;
I'm thankful for my sister and her family, who love me and understand me;
I'm thankful for getting through one entire calendar year without spending time in a hospital--for myself or anyone else I love!

Thanks for a great post Ross,

I am thankful for my wonderful husband and my son's who have been there for me always,

I am thankful for my wonderful friends on VR who will always be there for me.

hugs

Jan

Ross. That was lovely and eloquent -- 2 descriptors which you heretofore might not have chosen to ascribe to (being the cantankerous rascal that you prefer to present to us). Really. Just lovely.

I am thankful for so much because I have had such a lucky life.

But my family .... they are everything. I could not bear to leave them and am so very grateful to have been given the chance to stay longer.

Thank you for starting this thread. Our forum community's deepest togetherness is often brought out in these sharings and the posts are heartwarming to read.

Peace.

Marguerite

What am I Thankful For?

The morning sun....the evening moon......rain on my face.....the wind at my back. I'm thankful for every day that I am on this side of the frost line.

Seeing a smile on my wife's face......talking to my children.....laughing and playing with my grandkids. I'm thankful for every breath that I take.

I'm even thankful for that nice big scar down the center of my chest....if I didn't have it, then I probably wouldn't be around to enjoy the other things in life.

In short.....I'm Thankful for everything that life has to offer. Things I took for granted before are now more important that I could have ever imagined.

Every day is a gift and I'm thankful for that.

I am thankful for so many things. To mention a few would be my husband's love and support for almost fifty years now. My wonderful family children and grandchildren.

And of course to Hank for this great site and Ross for starting this for thread and all of the things he does for us and the friends I have made here.

Happy 2009

Ross,
Thanks for your post. Reading Debora's thread on the In Loving Memory Forum definitely struck my heart, then reading this thread and especially reading what you wrote, further made me believe what a remarkable dude you are!

I've been in a funk all week thinking about the personal issue that I brought up in this forum a few days ago. The past three years have not been easy with my valve failure and surgery, the problems with the artery in my leg, my mother's cancer and passing, my accident, and my arrythmia issues that I just had ablated a couple weeks ago. Also throw in a few more personal problems, and that's been me since 2006.

But I am blessed and thankful, and this thread reminded me to focus on those wonderful things in my life instead of the unfortunate events.

I am thankful for each day that the Lord gives me.
I am thankful that I was born in a time when valve surgery is possible.
I am thankful for my pediatric cardio who saved my life in September 1975, a month that I almost died. We're still in contact, and he's like an "extra dad."
I am thankful for my awesome cardio, Dr. V, who cares for me as if I'm part of his family. Everyone in his office makes me feel important! I am thankful that he referred me to Dr. Starnes, the excellent surgeon who repaired my valve.
I am thankful for VR.com and all the great people I've met over the years, and especially for Ross! :D
I am thankful hat even though I had my father for nine years and my mom for 31, that they are my parents and that they are still looking out for me from heaven.
I am thankful for my husband. Even though we have been through some rough times and rough patches in our relationship, each thing we encounter brings us closer.
I am thankful for the rest of my family. Without the special joy my mom brought to the holidays every year, we were still able to have a great Christmas together!
I am thankful for my students, past and present. Although there are times when they try my patience, they are a great group of kids who I love and appreciate. It was great getting a "get well soon card" from them as they wished me the best with my ablation!
There are so many other blessings in my life. It would take me all day to list them all here.

This thread came at a time when I really needed to remind myself of all the good things I have.

As others have said, we all have many things to be grateful for. This thread fits with, and brings to mind, a wonderful thing that happened to me this morning. Barb had the day off from teaching her second graders, and we decided it would be fun to drive into town, walk through some of the shops, and enjoy the day together.

As we took our time getting ready, I noticed Barb had put together a very attractive "outfit", and looked really nice. This inspired me to do my best to follow her example. I put together one of my old lawyer outfits-and realized this was going to require a pair of shoes with laces. I have continued slow but steady progress in my physical rehabilitation, but I am not even close to being able to lace a shoe on my left foot. There is something about asking someone to tie your shoe that makes me feel like a second-grader. Just one more little tweak from the polio I thought had left me 55 years ago.

I guess Barb saw the look on my face. (And for those who don't know, she really is a second grade teacher). "I tie a lot of shoes-I would love to tie that one for you"-and my internal meter switches from helpless to privileged. She tied a double knot on that shoe, and explained..."I don't want to take the chance that it might come loose when I'm not there to tie it."

Well-I want to spend the rest of my life being that close. It is just a shoelace-but it frames a love that will last a lifetime.

Ross what a beautiful post! Where do I start? I am thankul for so much. A friend of mine sent me an e-mail the other day of a young man that was born without arms and legs. He is amazing! I watched this video in tears and thought to myself, what have I got to complain about. I'm so thakful for my wonderful devoted husband who has always been there for me (going on 48 years.) My wonderful children and grandchildren. My church family, my VRC family, and my leukemia.com family. I'm thankful for the power of prayer and that God is still in control of my life. Ross I'm thankful for you. I feel God is using you by being there for us through this wonderful forum. You are truly God's gift to us. I'm thankful for Hank who started this whole mess!

I feel that my life is the greatest gift that has ever been given to me. For some reason God still wants me here on this earth. What a great blessing to realize that God is still in charge of whatever happens!

I am thankful for 2009. 2008 as been the worst year ever for me, i have had my share of downs and i have also heared lots of bad news for other people in 2008. I'm starting the new year with a possative attitude as there are always people worse off than yourself.

Thank you for your moving and beautiful post Ross!

I too am thankful for so many, many things --- waking up every morning is the ultimate!

I too wish I could do more than what I'm able to do but I'm deeply grateful for the things I can do.

I'm grateful for the love of my spouse, family & friends both on VR & elsewhere. And last but certainly not least, for the unconditional love I get each day from my loving pets, Petrie, Bridgett, Molly & Wally! :)

Thank your for this thread, it really makes one stop and think. I am thankful for my family: My 89 year old Mom, My two wonderful sons and their beautiful girlfriends and my Grandson, my sister and my brother. I am thankful that God gave me the second chance to be here and enjoy life. I am thankful for the day that my sister found vr.com, I have learned so much form a lot of wonderful people.

Thank you and Happy New Year!!!
