I have found out they wont accept Medicaid in North and South Carolina to get a home testing unit. Does anyone know of a reliable place to get one as cheap as possible?

Ebay can be good and bad. Don't know if it's worth the gamble or not. If you prefer to stay with a certified distributor, check with QAS, Raytel, and I'm sure there are a few more.

I'm hesitant about ebay,,I am waiting on a call from QAS to hear their deal. I also have a pharmacist friend looking for a deal. QAS is working on accepting Medicaid in NC,,we just havent made the list yet. It would be cost effect for them to make the arrangment as I am going to go to my heart center once a week anyway,,its just a block away from me.

We use Raytel Cardic Services which is now I guess formerly Philips Remote Cardic Services. They have been very good and attentive and helped us with getting the paperwork completed including talking to our clinic who never had anyone on the machine and our PCM so he would sign the request. Not sure if it helps any but thought I would throw it out there.
All the best,
Theresa

The cheapest place I found is http://www.claflinquip.com This is the "professional" INRatio unit. i.e., it includes the machine and power plug, and a box of self-contained one-use springloaded lancets, but no strips, or carry case. $758 You have to have your doctor sign a medical authorization form to get the machine, and to get to that form you have to search claflin's web site a bit for other equipment items because the link from the INRAtio machine to the form does not work.

They also sell the strips as cheap as I've found them, $242-ish.

I bought the carry case elsewhere on line, search "hemosense carry case" about $50. you can buy lancets and lancing devices at most drug stores, just don't get the extra fine lancets as there is not enough blood to run the test properly (unless you bleed really good!). I'm doing fine with the self contained unit that came with my machine, I think they are gauge 26, but others may need the 31 gauge lancets.
If you don't want the hassle of getting all the accessory pieces yourself, then you can call Raytel ($1500+$350 for strips) or Qas etc. and they'll sell you the machine, carry case, lancing device as a set (their "patient set") but I was quite happy to save the money and piece it together myself.

They are QAS,,I had called a sales rep. because I had applied thru my heart center and when I didnt hear from anyone,I called 4 days in a row,,when she did call be back she was very rude and told me she was a sales rep and would give my number to a sales associate who would then call me back. I am still waiting on a call. I just have to wait and see what kind of a deal she will make me.

Please call and ask for Lance Visnich and tell him about the problem. He'll make sure you get that phone call back TODAY!. Tell him Hank and Ross sent you.

Hello, I tried to visit the website mentioned by AgilityDog but got nothing. A search for QAS PT INR brought me to www.qualityassuredservices.com/INRatioPromo.aspx

Is that the proper site?

Also, someone had mentioned an invaluable guide that one user had for sale with regard to Coumadin dosage if someone could direct me to that. I must say that maintaining the proper INR level has given me great problems as my INR has not been in target range since I left the Hospital. I am now up to 8mg per day and my last test was 1.7

Any advice would be helpful.

I just eat what I want, when I want ,in moderation and then adjust my dosage if needed. You can look up vitamin k foods if you like.I did find a good vitamin that is very low in k,,Theragan-M... I dont know about the tubes,,I would have to google that as well.
Thanks for everyones input. I'm going to get busy today and see what I can get accomplished.

(see what I learned here Ross)

What's the purpose (or need) of a capillarity tube?

Thanks!

To make placing the blood sample easier on the test strip. Just touch the tube to the sample and it draws in the blood, then move it over your strip and squirt it out in the well.

Roger:

I haven't had problems getting the blood sample onto the strip.
Someone who has limited manual dexterity, such as from arthritis, might possibly have a problem. I don't have any capillary tubes. Took a gamble on the first try with my INRatio that I would get the drop of blood in the well, and I did.

On "off-limit" foods/supplements:

Just keep on keeping on. Your warfarin dosage will be adjusted according to your INR, which is based on a myrid of things.

I made the mistake of avoiding offending foods during my stabilization period. Now I'm adding back items and my INR looks like a roller coaster...
