I had a plug, and walked out of the hospital within an hour or so of coming out the cath lab - of course, I had had so much "joy juice" I was floating still. No problems later, very little bruising, and can't remember any restrictions in the days following it either.

Thanks Al,
Yes the event rate was 1 in 1000 then.
I know you are somewhat familier with things around here.
This was done at Wm. Beaumont hospital, one of the top hospitals in this country when it comes to heart issues.
It was performed by our cardiologist who is well into his fifties, and was Vice Chief of Cardiology for both Beaumont hospitals.
He swears it was him who messed up, but we don't believe that to this day.
This is a teaching hospital and we are quite sure it was an intern who made this awful mistake.
Now they have come up with dummies to practice on, but too late for my wife.

I've had 2 caths - one lying flat afterwards and one with a plug. I'll take the plug any day, thank you. With the first one, they made me lay perfectly still for about 8 hours with a heavy weight sitting on the incision site. Then, when I did get up and walk, it HURT, but only for a while. With the plug, I only had to lay still for a short while, like 30 minutes or something. Piece of cake compared to the first one.

Despite the discomfort of having to lie still after the first one, both caths were no big deal. Anyone with a cath in their future should not fret.

Welcome to VR, ponytaila1a. Glad you found us. Best wishes and good luck with the cath. I wish they had used the plug, instead of pressure, when I had it done. I thought the procedure itself was rather facinating.

a huge hello and welcome here,
wishing you all the best with your cath.
keep us posted on your adventure as i had a cath
16 years ago where they made me lay still for eternity.

I had my last cath last Thursday. I had the ordeal of laying flat for hours. After 2-3 hours they eleivated me alittle and then every hour a little more. It wasn't all that uncomfortable but I guess the way I'm shaped my chest felt very heavy and caused alot of pressure on my back. The Sunday before my cath I went and got a massage to loosen up my back and shoulders and I had another one the night before. I would say it really helped for 2 reasons. It loosened the muscles and it really relaxed me for the next mornings events.

I had a cath in February and it went very easily for me. I had no discomfort, plenty of happy juice, no bruising or discomfort afterward and also had the collagen plug. With the plug, I still had to lay still for about 2 hours I think it was.

I was permitted to drive the next day and definitely felt up to it. I was fine immediately after the cath and remained so.

Good luck with yours. I sincerely hope it goes as smoothly for you.
