I have three tube scars, one on my right side, the other on my left & then one right below my chest sterum scar(s).

I have another scar in my neck area from my last surgery & my husband said I had a tube coming out of the right side of my neck but I have no idea why? I do know that they had to enlarge my aorta to make room for my St. Jude so maybe that's why, not sure.

shoot not only do I have those if I look close enough I can find tube scars from my surgery as a kid. I had tubes in my ankles, elbow area (inside joint) and wrists back then. I have a nice cross on my chest as well. one horizontal from 1st surgery and one vertical from 2nd surgery. Plus a small scar up by my right arm pit. Lets just say i have been scarred for life lol.

I have four scars. Sternum, right side (tube), and two small ones a little under my sternum where the wires went in.

Most of mine are hidden though since I have a hairy chest and belly. Maybe with a little hormone therapy...

hey guys,

I have 4, 3 on the right side and one on the right. the middles of mine are kind of indented, I think I have adhesions under them, but besides that I have 2 sternal midline scars, and scars in my groin from caths and bypass hookups.

Some people have all the luck, myself I am the Homer Simpson of chest hair...... all 3 of them.

yep have 4 chest tube scars that people notice more then my sternotomy scar, they ask if they are bullet wounds. "no" they are not they look like large plus signs. oh and also have the huge right groin scar from the second access point for the heart-lung machine. i love them all, but wish they had made the second sternotomy scar to prove that they opened me the second time, that scar looks like a railroad track. WOOHOO. mike:)

In regard to drain tube scars...

In regard to drain tube scars...

The thing is, the way they are cut and/or stitched, they kind of pucker like a quilt. A deep cut usually needs layers or depths of stitches to keep that kind of puckering from happening and with a drain hole, the technique of performing layers of stitching must not be a reasonable and/or safe option for optimal healing.

I have one on my left side from my first heart surgery that looks like a "plus" sign (+)
and two puckered tube scars from this past heart surgery.

The big IV thing in my neck during the valve replacement left a little scar too. Ugh.

nope, don't seem to have anything but 3 holes in my belly from the pacer wires, and of course the sternum scar. Wire ones are real beauties, though, as my warfarin therapy was fairly well advanced when the floor realised I had not had the wires removed, so we waited a day or two of heparin shots, then the pacer wires came out - the insertion (or extrusion) points were all scabbed over, and I had a real mess for a day or two, so they have definitely not healed as well as the sternum scar. I had a little discoloration and disfiguration around the neck where the big thingy was, it got better and I don't even know if it is still there or not.

Mmmmmm, never thought of passing my pacer wire scars off as bullet holes . . .

My husband has two prominent chest tube scars, no pacing wire scars, and two on his neck from the central line. His vampire bite marks. :)

YUP.... I have those wonderful tatoos as well. Three of them to be exact. my three are still scabbed over so they have not blended in with my skin yet.

Sounds like we all have them. I will add mine to the list. I had minimally invasive MVR. Scars here, there, and everywhere. The chest tube scar does itch from time to time and it has been 3 years.

I have two lovely tube scars, they took the longest to heal, about 5 weeks post surgery.

I have 2 bullet holes (yes, Ton... who coined that first? der Biermeister I think) and they look like little cat eyes; slanted slits. They were horribly gross at first; worrisome and rather infected but I left them alone and they healed very nicely. They ended up hardly noticeable, and my sternum scar went keloid and is very noticeable....never figured out why but that's that! No matter.

:) Marguerite

Yes, I have tube scars.

The three from my first OHS (four years ago) had faded to not very noticeable when I went in for my second OHS and got four new tube scars.

I'm still trying to figure out why some folks have one drain tube but some like me have four.
I can't figure why I had same surgeon, same hospital for both OHS and had three tubes first time and, lucky me, got four the next.

Oh well..... whaddyagonna do? :)
