Dear All.
AaronJ suggested to "make a thread to poll how many years people have had their valves".
Do you feel that this is possible? Will this be of any help in establishing OUR forum statistics? Would it be better if we consider our statistical base instead of depending on outside statistics? I believe that the number of forum members constitute an excellent statistical base.
This is just a proposition and a suggestion.

I think it would be interesting. We would need to compile a number of things though. Not only how many years, but what type and I'm sure there are other items.

As for me, mine was implanted on 9/8/1997 and I have a St Jude Aortic bi-leaflet valve. Size 31, Model: 31CAVG-404

Mechanical Valve Poll.

Make/Type/Size: Carbomedics/Aortic Bi-Leaflet/No.21.
Date/Year Implanted: July 20, 2007.

I really don?t see the point?.if people want to post the age of their valve they can?..I do not see the need for forum statistics on valve life. There are to many variables. What if the average turned out to be two years do to newbies posting and old valvers not having an intrest??someone might read it and say holy ship?.what?s to use in having surgery??I believe there are some who put more stock in the information here than they should and possible neglect the advise of medical professional

Cooker, that was just a suggestion. I short, I agree with you that "if people want to post the age of their valve they can". Actually, it is very encouraging for the newbies (including myself) to see so many examples of successfull implantations (new and old).

Well we don't have one on age of valves, but I do remember the question being brought up in a thread a long long time ago. We do have a poll on Coumadin and how it affects you and your life which I posted in valve selection for the new folks to vote on.

Oh, I?m sorry. I thought you were asking if we thought it was needed or value add, and I don?t.

The only problem with that poll Ross, is it will skew the results because the longer the poll stays up, the more dated the answers will be. I think it would have been better if we used a cal year range as opposed to 5-10 years, etc.

Maybe something like:
2008 - 2003
2002 - 1997
1996 - 1987
etc...

This way the results would stay correct no matter when the poll was viewed.

It's out there for petros to see. I can close it for further voting if it's not already.

Thanks Ros.
However, only few (57) members responded and these were mostly newbies. Cooker was correct. There is a reduced interest from old members to vote.
Thanks again for the info.

Your more then welcome to start up a new one. People love polls around here, so be my guest. Consider Perrypiratesdads idea about using years rather then length of time. You may have to start two, one for tissue and one for mechanical because I don't think your going to have enough categories to post for both in one poll.

Or use the same format and give it a closing date, say a year from now?
