Hi All,
Just to let you know that I had my surgery on 19th June and it and recovery are going well. I had an on-x mechanical valve inserted to replace my aortic valve.
I got released from hospital on the 26th June and am now recovering well at home.
Having some teething problems getting my INR levels stable with the warfarin but hopefully they have it sorted now.

Thanks for all your support pre-surgery and sorry for the delay in getting back to you all.

John:)

Hi John, delighted to hear all is well with you. Got a bit concerned that you were ok....and you are, so thats fantastic.

How long did your surgery take ? Did you still have the breathing tube in when you woke up?

Hi Jacqui,
I was knocked out from 10.15 am and woke about 3.45pm. - from reading my op notes I was on the by-pass machine for one hour and 12 minutes.

As soon as I started to wake up my wife and brother asked if the respirator could be removed (I had asked them to do this following all the advice on this site) - thankfully the anthestist agreed and so I didn't wake up with the tube in - when I seen others in the ICU having it removed I was glad of that.

John

If you continue to have problems with your INR, come see us in the anticoag forum. Most Coumadin managers don't have a clue as to how the drug works.

Just wondering if you had your medical care privately or through public health care. *Im not being nosey, just that my experience with the public health care system has not been good thus far.

Welcome home John & there really is "no place like home!"

Try not to get frustrated if your INR levels are not where they should be. I went thru months of trying to get them stable so I know how confusing & downright depressing that can be but eventually they'll fall into place.

Give yourself time to heal & don't try to take on more than you should. There'll be plenty of time for that once you've recovered completely. Take care & good luck to you! :)

Hi Jacqui-I got my op in the Mater Private in Dublin under a default contract with the NHS. Was supposed to have op done in The Rvh Belfast.
Sorry to hear you have not been getting satisfactory care.
