Well people, it's that time of year again. What do you spend time doing on this weekend?

We'll be remembering our fallen friends and soldiers from all wars and have a cookout most likely.

Just want to see what others do...

We'll just be doing some simple grilling out here in the boonies. It's a gorgeous day in the Blue Ridge this Sunday and Memorial Day is also forecast to be pretty and even warmer.

For sure, we will pause to remember all the military men and women who have sacrificed so much so we can be free, and we will pray that all those now serving can return home safely as soon as possible.

We remember the fallen and their families. We put flags in front of every home on our cul de sac (8 houses), beginning on Friday morning, we're the only street in the subdivision that does this. Some homeowners put a flag on their house. IMHO, every house should have a flag. The flags stay in place until dusk on Memorial Day. For the 4th of July we do the same.

Growing up we always had grill parties at our parents house. My husband is a NASCAR fan so we watch the races. We grilled last night.

I miss seeing the Blue Ridge Mountains. Don't suppose your can snap me a few digital shots could you?

I am probably one of the last dinosaurs to not know how to take digital pictures and put them on my computer for sending. I envy Dennis for all the gorgeous photos he sends from New Mexico. Surrounded by such beauty in this area, I have got to learn how to do that.

Anyway, here is one Blue Ridge picture borrowed from elsewhere. I'll try to learn and so better....

Rolling Thunder

Rolling Thunder

Rode my bicycle down to the mall in DC to watch Rolling Thunder (The Ride to the Wall). There were an unbelievable number of motorcycles. Thousands and thousands of them. They streamed past for I don't know how long - I would guess at least a couple of hours. Very impressive.

I stayed at a motel that had one of the mountains right out back. The size of that thing impressed the heck out of me. One moment in time I'll never forget.

Us Aussies had our Memorial day a few weeks ago. We get up early and go to our Shrine of Rememberance. The dawn service starts at 5.30 am and we pay our respects to fallen soldiers. This is the followed by a parade of veterans from all wars.We call it ANZAC day. Its highly emotional. The rest of the day is spent with family.
p.s. I agree about the Blue ridge mountains I love them myself. I had a son who lived for 5 years in a small place called Banner Elk in N.C. and we visited him regularly. The mountains left a big impression on me.

I have a flag up every day. Im ex-Army and tomorrow I will take a few minutes and say a prayer for those who made the ultimate sacrific and for those that are in harms way right now. I also will make it a point to shake the hand of anyone I see who I know is current or ex-military and thank them for their service.

My oldest son is in the Navy and will be deployed to kwaite in one month, we'll get to see him before he goes, please pray for him. Thanks Debbie :)

We intended to grill this afternoon, but we're covered up with bad weather so I doubt that we'll be out in the backyard.

Our son in Iraq will be home next week-end (actually we pick him up on my birthday:)) so I'm pleased as punch. Memorial Day is a big deal around here -- more than just another Monday holiday.

Thanks to all, both past and present, who serve our great nation.

WORKING :D:rolleyes:

I have offered my prayer of thanks for the men and women who have and are so valiantly defending our way of life...may God bless them and their families.

I am going over to my younger brother's for a BBQ...

I am going over to my younger brother's for a BBQ...

Besides offering a prayer for the troops who are still at war, for those who have fallen for our safety and for those who have simply left us for the comfort and peace that only God can give, I am going to spend the afternoon and evening with my brothers, my niece, and my mother for a nice BBQ :D:D:D Here's wishing you all have a great Memorial Day and enjoy the comfort of your friends and family. :D:D:D Harrybaby:D:D:D

Earlier we watched the local parade, and will be with friends this afternoon. But I will also keep in mind those fallen Americans from all wars, some of whom I knew and called friends. Later today a few of us who have all worn this nation's uniform will get together and raise a glass in memory to our fallen heros, and we will each in our own way pray that, somehow, no more be added to their number.

Working too!

Working too!

I am keeping the streets of Atlanta safe for a few hours and then going to BBQ with the rest of the family. I actually have 4 hrs left and there hasn't been too much stupidity so far today.

I was never in the service. Heart murmur was one of the problems when i tried. I also pray for those all over this world protecting our way of life as well as their families waiting at home. At the end of each day my son and I always say a prayer for our military as well as those fighting the war on our streets at home. (fire, ems, police) Thanks to all who have served their country.

Greg you live in the same town that a girl I went to school with lives. Is Buford fairly large? I'm wondering if you might not know her or her husband.

Buford

Buford

Ross,
Buford is pretty big and growing fast. It's metro Atl. so there is lots going on. Braves are starting a AAA team in buford in 2009. Mall of Ga. is here.Chances of me knowing her are slim. Perhaps my wife does. She was Mgr at Bombay Co in the mall (before the company went broke) and now is the Retail Mgr at Cracker Barrell. I am driving to or from work 16 hrs a week min. Lots of fun in Atl traffic.
It's a small world though, I may know her.

I live in Senoia,South of Buford. I love Georgia. There is so much to see and do here. You can vacation close to home and never get bored. My grandkids are coming in June from Tennessee(I love Tennessee also) and we have a week full of differnet things to do everyday and we should do it all on a couple tanks of gas.

We celebrated by going to a parade that my kids were in (they are in the marching band) and then there was a gathering at the local historical society building which is where the parade terminates. They dedicated a new tree to a local veteran who had fought in WWII and had just died. The parade official also called everyone one out by the war or operation that they served in, and finally, we had two trumpet players play taps to the flag. One played it right next to the flag, and when he was done, a second trumpet player was standing off in the distance behind the old building played it. It was quite moving.

After all of that, we went back to our house, and had a large cookout with both sides of the family to honor both my father and father in law who both served (My Dad in Korea and my Father in Law in Vietnam).
