...and I'm a guy.

Hi all, I'm a newbe and this is my first post.

Just hit 8 weeks and starting to feel a little better with less pain
after my aortic replacement valve.
Suddenly my breast is all puffy (with fluid?)
The doc wasn't available fri but the PA said it probably wasn't
anything to worry about but just in case they took an x-ray and
will get back to me. The doc will look at it monday I guess.

The term don't worry and valve replacement just don't seem to
go together but ...yes, I know...worrying doesn't help.

Has anyone else had a swollen breast after 8 weeks?

Jack

I have been a member for over 8 yrs and don't recall that anyone had a swollen breast - however, others will be along shortly to give their remarks. Could be a bruise? we have lots of other swollen stuff but not breasts that I can recall. Hope you get some answers pretty quick.

Jack....welcome to the zoo....Glad you are starting to feel better.....I have not heard of this but the body is recovering from a huge trauma. I'm sure you will be fine.

This second OHS, my left breast was so bruised and black/blue/green/yellow that it was quite a sight. But it all healed within 10 days or so and I've had no swelling. You did the right thing to consult your doctor and be sure to speak with him Monday. I would suggest if his office doesn't contact you early, you might think about calling there. Sometimes on Mondays, the office is busy and the one who gives the gentle reminder gets the attention.

Welcome to the Forum. Not uncommon after this run-over-by-a-truck type experience called OHS to have assorted bumps, bruises, contusions, scars, etc.... you're wise to get it checked out. Hopefully it will all resolve for you soon.

Hi Jack,

I am 11 weeks out and my right breast stays sore. When I do heavy lifting it gets worse but nothing to complain about. It feels swollen but it could be my imagination. Heck if I can tell if its a B or a C cup. Given the amount of cutting that went on I was told not to worry about it. I went through minimal invasive surgery which measn they make a small incision and then bore through tissue, muscle and fat (has more than a minimal amount of pain).

I would not think this is a serious problem. Asking your doc when in doubt is the right step. Best wishes.

Welcome to this site! I was just wondering what kind of surgical approach was used for your surgery. It could make a difference on what would be normal or not.

Hi Betty,
The surgeon told me (after 5 weeks) that when the chest is split,
it is not split 50/50. It usually is pushed more towards the heart.
My main concern then was the extra pain to the left,my left, of the
top of the incision.
" Don't worry...everything if fine"
The good news I guess is that 2 days later the swelling hasn't gotten larger.

Has anyone noticed that the more pain you have, the more pain you accept?

Wait a minute!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

whoops...I think I forgot your question~~~~~~~~~LOL!!!

Welcome Jack! Glad to see you took my advice and joined the group. Great people here and they can be of significant help most of the time.

Jack is in my fantasy golf group on ESPN, that is how he ended up here on Valve repacement.

Well, since you are talking about "chest splitting" I think I have a pretty good idea.:) Glad things are not getting worse. About the pain comment. I do know you do develop a tolerance to it. I've had arthritis since I was a teen and I never know how my pain compares to anyone else's on that 1 to 10 scale. I hate answering that question. I mean, even the little pictures mess me up...and I'm a nurse.

Thank you for saying that, Betty, about the 1 to 10 scale on pain. I can't grasp how I am supposed to measure..... as compared to what??? What I consider tolderable could be hugely painful to someone else. Don't we all experience pain differently? How can we be measured against others when it is such a subjective thing?

I dropped by the surgeons office after re-hab today and I
was told that my x-rays showed that everything was just fine.
The RN suggested that I hold off on chipping (golf chipping) as
that may have helped the swelling. Strongly warned not to rush it.
I've decided to hold off on any other kind of chipping also.
My honey says my breast is not as puffy. I can't tell. Some pain.

Thanks again all for your wonderful help. My friend DeWayne told me
about this site over a month ago. Don't know why I took so long to check it out.

Now Jack you didn't tell us you were out chipping golf balls!
You need to slow it down a bit lol.
It takes 12 weeks for the sternum to heal. It took me 6 months before I was ready to go out and actually play, which I did with no problems. It can feel slow at times for recovery, but it is happening. You just can't start doing everything after 2 months. Heck I think the list of stuff I had said not to use my riding lawnmower for 3 months after surgery.
