Hey could the shopper of the household please tell me what Strip Steaks go for per pound at your place?

It's up to $14.99 a pound here.

I've been reading a lot about the production of Biofuel being one of the causes of the increase in costs of most foods. There are financial benefits for farmers to turn land otherwise used to grow crops or turn out livestock to biofuel product land.

This is a year old - but it's interesting. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/6481029.stm

Hey all I want to know is how much more can people take? I'm fighting a losing battle here. I'm wondering if it's worth fighting.

Just bought rib-eyes at BJ's - $6.99/lb. I use BJ's here and Costco in FL- good beef and good prices. I didn't notice what strip steaks were this week and you have to buy in a package of 3 or 4 usually.

Northern Virgina, DC area
Harris-Teeter (with card) bone-in NY strip steak: $6.99/lb "save at least $3/lb with your ...card"
Safeway (with card, family pack) $7.99/lb

don't recommend moving here to save money, though...

I have always looked for the butcher's specials, the meats that is going to expire that day or the next. It's still fine, but you can save several dollars. They usually do the markdowns in the morning. I stock up on beef tenderloin, tenderloin tips, chateaubriand, and I saw strp steaks at Walmart on special last week. Maybe they were 2-3 dollars off, depending on size, larger ones were even more.

I get a lot of good deals on meat that way.

I guess I'm thrifty--maybe even cheap! I hate to pay full price for anything.

Nancy - I partake of the Priced to Sell too! I have a vacuum sealer and just seal it up and freeze it right away - unless we're having it for dinner that night.

Every once in a while they have a sale on the loin, or other very large good cuts. If you don't mind doing some butchering yourself at home, that's another way to save.

Our markets here are always having sales on very large pieces of pork. For a large family this is a good idea.

I also found that chuck steak can be surprisingly tender if you want to take the time to trim out all the sinews (silver skin) and cartilage (and that is a pain), that's what makes it tough. Then marinate it a little. When the gandsons were here I did that. One is 15 and 6'4 and a huge appetite. His younger brother is getting big too and is a good eater. They said they only ate steak and a LOT of it. So that's what I did for their "steak". They loved it. I just bought the ultra large package of chucks and spent a long time trimming. I think you could grill it without a problem as long as those parts are trimmed out. Shish kabobs sound good.

How COULD you!??!.....
I AM BEEF (well partially)

Though I cant say how much I am worth per Lb:p

I could give you an answer but I dont know what "strip beef" is

This week at our local supermarket...:D
$14.99 a pound is almost $30 bucks a kilo and I would NEVER pay that for steak! occaisionally hubby will buy "grain-fed" steaks from the Butcher-shop for the BBQ @$25.00 a kilo for 4 hungry males that's $60 of beef for a BBQ, I dont see the point  I try to save that luxury for special occaisions.

16.99 here depending what you want and more too at cost if you want
Ross you better stick to frog legs .....Steak costs our leg at barbeque
season here........course we still have winter,so our prices will go higher.
Bought a bag of flour here 18.00 for 10 lb bag as i luv to bake bread etc:eek: on the flour im gonna stop baking.

Beef prices on the rise globally it seems. Argentina, probably the world's biggest beef exporter has a crisis in the industry] As more traditional beef foodstuff is diverted into bio fuel, the price of feed is rocketing.

Italians are in uproar as the shortage of wheat is driving pasta prices upward.

It seems we are at the begining of a world food shortage. Listening to a piece on BBC radio this morning; Wal Mart is rationing bulk buying of rice; a Bangladeshi factory worker was relating how rising prices mean two thirds of his weekly wage is now spent on food.

Here in the UK, a small but growing amount of people are digging up a section of their formal garden and planting vegetables.

yeah, it's definitely a grim outlook indeed.

i haven't followed the price of meat in Japan. I stopped buying it years ago. All types of meat are really expensive over here, so I just cook with vegetables. I'm not vegetarian, but only eat meat when I go out to restaurants. It's unbelievable how much you can save if you're frugal with your ingredients, although I hate to think about what all this tofu is doing to my INR! Sorry I can't give you price quotes over here. The metric system is used over here and I have no idea how to convert kg to lbs!

This is the thing, food and fuel prices are killing us. Prices on everything keep going up and we were taking it from our food budget, but we have no where else to take from and the bills are still rising. My buddy in New Orleans said they are already rationing rice there. I can handle not going anywhere, but don't screw with my food!

Steaks, what are those. I am thinking about retiring a year earlier because of the cost of gas and of course that is driving up the price of everything else. I drive 300 miles a week round trip to work and that is costing me about 200.00a month. And now I read where they are rationing the rice sales because there is a shortage and the price has doubled. I have always thought my husband and I planned wisely for our retirement but through no fault of ours its not looking as rosy as it was.

daughter and I seldom eat beef. We use pork and poultry. I bought a pork roast about a week ago and total was $9.19. It was delicious and with only two of us it lasted. Then I cooked rice in the juice, mixed it with canned dog food for Miss Sally. She certainly has been eager for her food the last couple days. Pork is the new white meat, you know - there was very little fat in this roast so they are cutting it off, I guess, before we get it.
