Not sure if Andrew (Cocoalab's son) is still scheduled for Monday surgery, but sending our prayers and best wishes that he is doing better and that surgery is possible tomorrow. We will have you all in our prayers.

GOOD LUCK!

Thoughts/prayers coming Andrew's way for a SUCCESSFUL surgery (if indeed he does go to surgery tomorrow)....

From Andrew's carepage:

Sorry that we didn't post earlier but it was a busy day yesterday. Andrew will be having surgery today at 8:30am. He will have his valve replaced and Icd removed. What else depends on how long it takes. Will try to keep posting updates today. Thank you everybody for your prayers.

My prayers and thoughts are with Andrew and Wendy. May God bless.

Thanks for that update, Mary- Prayers going out all day for Andrew!

Keeping Andrew close in prayer.

We'll keep an eye on his Carepage for updates.

Latest notification said that they wouldn't get started until 10am. There are a few little glitches that they're working on. I hope God hears our prayers and guides the surgery team as they perform his work.

UPDATE On Bypass

114 May 21, 2007 at 12:58 PM CDT
Just got the update. Andrew is on bypass. They were able to get his Icd out and the wire. Keep praying for his surgeons Drs Mavroudis and Backer two extremely dedicated and talented men.

Knew many of you want to know so as I am able to update I will. There are some times that the computers are not available to me, but otherwise I will try to let you know as I do. It is suppose to take a while, but we are specifically praying that bypass time can be as short as possible for many reasons but especially for his kidneys.

till next update,
Wendy

3PM update valve replaced

Just heard from surgery that they were able to replace Andrew's tricuspid valve already and need to replace his mitral as well. All the vegetations are removed and are being sent to the lab.

He will be getting a mechanical valve which requitres a little more maintenance but I am just so glad that he is doing so well so far. They will probably put in a tissue valve for his mitral. I know for some of you that sounds backwards but it is his anatomy. His tricuspid valve is in the high pressure ventricle.

Keep up your prayers. We are encouraged that things are progressing as quickly as they are. We still have a ways to go though.

thanks,
Wendy

I can hardly believe Andrew's last update. Julie the CVS nurse who has been keeping us informed, let us know they have finished with his valves and the heart lung machine is off, though he was still connected. His heart is beating on it's own and it sounds like it is doing well.

We are all very encouraged. "Why don't we think it's possible?" I feel like Rhonda (I think that was her name) who ran to tell her friends that Paul, whom they were praying would get out of prison, was at the door, but didn't even believe enough to let him in at first.

There is still the finishing stuff to do and we will have to watch for arrythmias and such but I am just totally amazed at how well he has done.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for each of you who prayed on his behalf and on ours. I think God had his ear cocked to your voices. With all the many miracles we have seen...God just might have had another one for us.

Keep us in your prayers for a rather long recovery period ahead and for no complications.

In Christ's grace,
Wendy

Mavroudis and Backer performed my January 2003 surgery. Andrew is in VERY good hands :).

And, good news, sounds like ... thoughts/prayers continuing, of course.

Andrew is in his room !!!

Well... Andrew is in his room. Surgery is over!!! I think everyone is just amazed at how well things went.

He had a little trouble with getting his blood pressure up where they needed it for the CRRT. We waited a bit before they were ready to let us see him but sounds like they are happy and being dilligent to keep him right where he is or so. His sats were just a tiny bit low but still in the low 90s at 75% oxygen.

It was great to talk to Dr Backer and then a little later Dr Mavroudis afterwards. They are dedicated surgeons and I can only imagine how hard their job is. Not just the physical part but the emotional burden of going in knowing there are no guarentees yet needing to do your best to save a patients life. I thank God for them.

Well I am on cloud nine, yet well aware of the struggles that may still lie ahead. We need to continue to give antibiotics for at least 6 weeks and we need to get him healed from surgery. There is also the defibrilator that will need to be implanted in the not so distant future. And of course the hope that his kidneys will be happy and start to recover after all they have been through. But look how far your prayers have brought him!

God is still in control and really has a plan in all of this.

heart hugs,
Wendy

Thank you everyone! It has gone incredibly well. Andrew was so terribly sick when this all started and for him to come out of surgery so well is nothing short of a miracle in my book.

Now we have a mechanical and a tissue valve. Get to start dealing with INR's again but so glad to do it!! :D
