Have you ever wondered where some of those ?gut feelings? come from? My grad-daughter Ellie, along with Mom, Dad, and their two dogs are in Puerto Rico for now. They live in a lovely area, but there is a problem with feral cats. These guys are nobodies pets, and are first class predators.
The house has a cement wall around the pool in back of the house. The cats are incredibly nimble, and several of them are able to go up and down a seven-foot stucco wall. You don?t want them around your pool, and for sure you don?t want them around your baby. And the dogs going crazy when they see these cats. Ellie?s eyes get big when you say the word ?cat?. As best I can tell, she associates cats with evil.
Stephanie was trying to help her get over that, and was pointing out a small, peaceful cat to Ellie. Just then, their dog Sebastian came around the corner and trapped the cat in the garage. A huge, raucous fight ensued; with Sebastian (whom they picked up as a stray in Brazil, and turns out to be a first class cat fighter) flinging cat hair about the garage while Stephanie yelled at him, and did her best to cover Ellie?s eyes, all accompanied by a lot of cat yowling. The cat found a hiding place, and appeared to leave no worse for wear. But Ellie now points out every cat in the same way that you or I might point out a dangerous snake. I wonder how she will look at cats as she grows older?
