things are getting a little crazy. I'm very active and my INR is constantly low. 1.6-1.8 range. Should be 2.0-3.0 with the ON-X. I take the highest dosage that my DR has put anyone on, 12 mg per day. I eat green veg only one time per week. Will this dosage damage my other organs? He's wanting to up me to 13 mg per day. Any help is much appreciated.

Harley,

I could be wrong but I think the INR is also indicative of toxicity (sp?) levels. In other words, I don't think needing a higher dose to stay in range would cause you any more worries than someone who stays in ranger on 3mg/day.

don't be afraid of 13 mg/day. We have a member here that takes 25mg/day. The right dose for you is the dose that keeps you in range. If it is 1mg/day or 30 mg/day.So be it. When in range, THAT is the right dose for you. I also feel you need to eats more greens. They are healthy for you and you should not be restricting them! Dose the diet, don't diet the dose!

Harley, you may want to give this link a read again, or for the first time, if you haven't already. http://valvereplacement.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17116

Al Lodwick would probably tell you that your doctor shouldn't be worrying about the amount of Coumadin you take. The correct dose, is the dose you need to keep you in range. Some say that those of us that take higher doses have healthy livers because it processes the Coumadin so well that we require higher doses.

Also, don't worry a whole lot about what you eat. Let the dose be adjusted to your normal diet. If that means greens and salads daily, then so be it.

Increasing your dose to 13 is only an 8% increase. With an INR 1.8 and below, I'd ask your doctor to be a bit more aggressive in your dosage change.

This link has a chart about 1/3 of the way down that had dosing suggestions for INR's that are to be 2-3. http://www.aafp.org/afp/990201ap/635.html

Harley are you satisfied with eating greens only once a week? If not, eat them as you normally would and as much as you normally would. Once your REGULAR diet is established and maintained, the dose can be adjusted for that diet. NEVER deny yourself food because of Coumadin. It can always be adjusted. As has been mentioned, the correct dose is the one that keeps you in range whether it's 25mg a day or 1mg a day. The amount of Coumadin taken will not affect your other organs. Sounds to me like you have a very well functioning liver.
