Hi everyone, Iv had pain in my right leg/foot on and off for several years. For the last 3 or 4 weeks its pretty constant. As soon as I get out of bed in the morning it starts. its not very painful in the morning, but by evening it is. I know this sounds weird but, it feels slightly tingly/numb on the skin and yet painful deep inside. There is slight tingling/numbness in my left leg, but no pain. It pains me if I walk, and it pains me if I stand, the only thing that eases it is to elevate my foot. Having said that, I am unable to walk or stand much due to sob, chest pain and irregular heartbeats, so could it be due to lack of exercise? By late evening my foot is very hot, red and puffy from my toes to half way up my calf and VERY painful.

Im wondering is this heart related or could it be something else??

These sound like the classic signs of a blood clot to me. Please get to the hospital, Jacqui. They should be able to look at the blood flow in your leg with an ultrasound or venography and diagnose a clot very quickly if that's the problem. I don't remember--are you on anticoagulation therapy?

HI P.J. Im taking 75mg of aspirin a day. I have been in a.fib at least twice since Nov and my overall health is definitely going down hill these last 6 months or so. Right now Im angry and scared all in one.

I don't know if it's heart related or not but I'd definitely get it checked out, especially if PJmomrunner is right about it sounding like signs of a blood clot.

I had something that sounds similar although not identical. In my case, I was having foot pains when I walked or stood. I'd also get foot swelling, especially around the big toe joint. Like you, it eased if I elevated my feet. However, I didn't have any pain or swelling beyond the foot itself. I had this for several years but was getting progressively worse so I asked my GP about it and I was sent for foot X-Rays. It turned out to be something called "foot spurs". I ended up getting prescribed orthotic inserts for my shoes to correct and its much better now. Coincidentally this was at the same visit my GP first discovered my heart murmur but the GP said the two were unrelated.

Check out this link and see what you think, Jacqui. I know you've fought many battles with your healthcare system and that you are headed to England soon in hopes of a better situation. If what you have is a clot you need immediate treatment. If you are in chronic afib then your medications are not working. I know you must feel as if you are beating your head against the wall in trying to get appropriate treatment, but for your own sake and the sake of your children you must continue to try.

P.J. Thanks so much. I have read that site...... my symptoms sure are similar, but it does ''come and go'', for example it usually lasts a few weeks and then eases off (never completely) but its not as painful, and could even 'almost' disappear for a few weeks, and then back again. Strange.......

We are moving to England on 29th April......so near and yet so far !!!!

I have been thinking about you. In my muddled mind I thought you were moving at the end of March.
If you go to the emergency room do you get a different doctor than the one you have seen before?
How is your son doing, didn't he have a CT or something recently?

Adam:

That's what I was thinking.

An uncle developed a DVT -- an occupational hazard of truck drivers (he did local deliveries for a trucking company). He ignored the symptoms until it was too painful. He was rushed to a hospital while at work. He was very fortunate -- doctors saved some of his foot but he was no longer able to drive for a living.

Marsha, I rang my doctors office this afternoon, but she was off today and wont be back until 2.30 tomorrow. I didnt say it in my post earlier but Iv also had quite a bad pain in my chest all day, especially when I breath in. I have taken 6 paracetamol and 2 ibuprofen for the pain,(not all at once) and it does take the edge off. I dont know whats wrong with me, Im a VERY sensible and responsible person and I know I should go to the hospital. I think Im either VERY SCARED or Iv lost all faith in them, or both. But if I still feel this bad in the morning I will go over.

*Hi Deanne, Thomas is having his CT scan on Monday 2nd April, it cant come soon enough. Trying to watch him every minute is exhausting. (He had his 16th birthday on Sunday )

If I go to the hospital tomorrow I will probably see whatever trainee doc happens to be on. I actually went to my gp yesterday with my daughter Sarah. As we were about to leave the doc asked Sarah to go outside while she had a word with me for a few minutes (which surprised me). Anyway, she (the doc) said that she had written a very cross letter to my cardio about how they are treating me....I was shocked....she had actually noticed !!!!!!
When I went to the ER about 10 days ago, they said I would get an app to wear a holter monitor within a few days....of course I havent heard a word from them. Anyway, I hope to make it through tonight and even hopefully wake up feeling ''better'' tomorrow.
**I hope Brians recovery is continuing positively.

*Thanks Adam for your reply.

Jacqui, I hate to belabor a point but...IF you have a DVT in your leg the big worry is that the clot will travel to your lungs. If that happens it becomes known as a pulmonary embolism and it can be life-threatening. Now you say it hurts when you breathe in...???!!! This is really adding up to something that needs immediate attention if you ask me. See link:

Thank you P.J. Your right, things dont look good. Its 5 minutes to midnight here, so Im hoping I will be ok through the night and if I feel like this in the morning I will DEFINITELY go over to the hospital.

Here's another thought. From your symptoms it sounds like you could have "gout"! I've had it for nearly 30 years. Now, from your screen name I can't tell whether you are male or female, but gout very rarely affects females. Actually 99% of those affected are male.

If on the other hand it is DVT there is a new blood test that is very accurate that your doctor might prescribe!

Good luck!
