Thanks, everyone, for your help suggesting Vitamin E oil. Here is my next question: I have tried it twice, and notice that because of the scar being where it is down the center of the chest, and long, that the Vitamin E oil does come through on clothing. I will have to stain remove the shirt from today. What is your advice as to when to put it on the scar, and how, and what do you do to prevent the oily stains on clothing? I saw in Walgreens that there were a number of products for scar fading, but I thought I would try this Vitamin E oil first. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Irene

Irene, why not try just applying it at night before bed and wearing an old t-shirt or something you don't care about.

That's what I did, just put it on at night. I'm not sure whether the Vitamin E helped or not, but it certainly didn't hurt, so it's worth a try.

if you decide to try something else, check the staining question on the box before you buy. I also tried the vit e but don't recall that it left a stain. It might just wash out. I should think the manufacturer would take that into consideration!

I used Vitamin E oil and I don't recall a problem of the staining the clothes.
Usually, it just washed out. Maybe you are using to much or not rubbing it in
enough before putting on clothes.
The best thing I learned about using the oil is my scar never got dry so it never
itched.:)

I am 7 months post-op and my scar has really faded and has not had any keloids. I wasn't religious about the Vit. E but I did use it and I think the rubbing it in and rubbing the scar itself was helpful in everything going so well. I use it at night before bed. I haven't used it lately because I have had a few stitches work their way out and get pimply looking. Keep using it, I think you will be happy you did.
