If you need 11mg of warfarin to stay in range, it's not too much.

Your dosage is based on a number of factors: your normal diet, exercise level, other Rxes & OTCs, how fast your body metabolizes warfarin, etc.

Yes, 11 is more than the average person takes. So you and I are definitely not average!!!! I take 10/day. That being said - the amount that is good for you to take is the amount that keeps you in range. The only real draw-back is that our INR's will drop really fast if we stop taking our doses, or skip a dose. I never hold a dose for anything less than 6.
It's also rumored that those of us that take higher doses just have really healthy livers.

As the others have mentioned, whatever dose it takes to keep you in your range is the correct dose for you. Some can get by with 2 or 3 mg or as much as 30mg, it just depends on your body and metabolization.

Whatever keeps you in range and safe is good for you. We are not all the same and metabolize Coumadin/Warfarin/vitamin K differently. I am a fast metabolizer and take 25mg per day right now, up from 24 just a few weeks ago. I probably will go up even more before summer starts in AZ but that's the way the cookie crumbles for me. I dose around my diet and have been on Coumadin/Warfarin for more than 6 1/2 years. I eat very healthy and never worry about my vitamin K intake. I hometest with the Protime.

Thanks for the info everyone. I am not concerned about it but more curious. I started at 5 mgs., 3 years ago and have slowly crept up to 11 mgs.

As far as the metabolizing it. Would that mean I metabolize it slower?

The more you take, the faster you metabolize it, so if you skipped a dose, you'd bottom out real quick.

When you need to more than double your dose, it is usually because you are doing something drastically different:

started vitamins (SlimFast, Ensure fall into this category)
greatly increased your exercise level
started taking something like Fiorinal for headaches
became a vegetarian

The clue usually lies in something different that you are putting in your mouth.
