Marvin had his apt today with the chemo doctor. He will be getting 2 different kinds of chemo once each week along with his rad treatment. They said it will be a low dose of chemo (the chemo is basically to improve the rad treatment) He goes tuesday to have a chemo port put in then they will also schedule for him to have a feeding tube put in. They say he will probable have to use the feeding tube sometime in the later part of his treatment because his throat will be to sore to swallow. They are making sure of the chemo they give him wont hurt his heart any.(I am thankful for that). Please continue to keep him in your prayers. They say this is one of the worst treatments to take. But it is do able.
We are both thankful to God for all the support we are getting. I will post more when he gets close to his treatments.

Sending prayers your way that Marvin deals well with his treatments and has all good results. You both will remain in my thoughts and prayers.

Sending prayers your way... I sure wish you luck with the treatments. My husband is presently having radiation treatments and also chemo but his is for lung cancer.

Prayers!

Prayers!

My prayers are with both of you. Treatment helps and God heals!

Just to let everyone know Marvin had his first radaition treatment today and will have one everyday monday-friday. He will also have chemo every tuesday. He finally feels like he is doing something to stop this cancer instead of waiting for all the test and things. This will be a long haul 7 weeks of rad and chemo. Thanks for all your prayers.

Glad to hear that the process has begun. It does make me wonder about the effects of radiation and chemo on someone who takes Warfarin. Obviously, not eating and being nauseous are problems with Warfarin. How do they handle it?

Marvin doesnt take any kind of blood thinner at this time. Because he had the Ross procedure he doesnt have too. That is a plus in our favor I think. Alot of the doctors treating marvin for the cancer asked him about his open heart surgery and what type of procedure he had done. We only ran across one nurse that knew what the ross was. They say the rad wont make him sick but the chemo may. We are praying that it doesnt get to bad. Because his cancer is in his throat it will be hard if he gets to sick in that way. Some of the side effects from his treatment will be severe sore throat of course and possible mouth sores and no saliva glands. We know that God is in control of all and will help us get though this.

Sending prayers and best wishes that Marvin does well with his treatment without too much discomfort. You both will remain in my thoughts.

Hey there!
I just wanted to send some encouragement your way. :D I had OHS April of 06 and surgery (neck) for Lymphoma July 06. Six treatments of chemo spaced every 21 days. Just finished up end of November. :D I did great. You will too I bet.

There are some powerful anti-nausea meds that work beautifully to combat that yucky nausea that can come with chemo. I was given anti-nausea meds WITH chemo and then pills (Kytril) for the 5 days or so following chemo. They truely work miracles! I was sick a little but nothing like I expected. My onco honestly did everything possible to help me. Heads up on the Kytril. My insurance only paid for 2 pills per month with a $50 co-pay. My onco always gave me samples of Kytril to cover all the days I needed them. He was wonderful. I hope you are equally blessed.

I am sure you have heard of the Nuelasta shot for building up the white blood cells. I don't think the chemo bothered me as much as the achiness associated with the Nuelasta shot. Several days of flu like aches. Nothing bad though. Just mild to moderate aches. This is all doable. I just want you to know that. You'll get through it.

I didn't thoroughly check your posts, but I wanted to make sure you know about Muga Scans. Because of my heart history, I had a pre-chemo Muga Scan and a Post Muga. A Muga scan involves the mixing of your own blood with radioactive fluid, wait time of 20 minutes, reinjected with the mixture, then 18 xray type slices of your heart through each of its phases of normal functioning. (You will feel like you could glow when this is all over!) Painless procedure. I didn't have any damage from chemo.

All this has only made me stronger. You'd be surprised what you can get through with alot of prayer and a ton of special friends/family!

Take care of yourself!
PM if I can help you in any way!
Debbi
