Harrybaby666, I FEEL FOR YOU!!! I broke my ribs the week before christmas. Not ready for the holidays I had no choice but to grin and bear it! Some how I did not think the kids would understand christmas couln't happen because mommy had broken ribs! Anyway, they do not give me anything for it (except for pain med's). My doc said that they would not tape them because it restricts your breathing etc. The good news is that you will feel better soon. However, it took me 6 full weeks to be able to ride in the car or do sit ups without feeling my ribs. I was not in pain for 6 weeks, (the worst pain ended after a week or two), but I was aware of them. Remember to breath!! You do not want to restrict your breathing at all. I found that even if I worked at it I would gasp from time to time, I did not take in deep breaths.

Good luck, my thoughts are with you!!!

Steph

Hi Steph.....I got the same treatment at the ER today.....but I am greatful for the pain meds as this REALLY hurts...not nearly as much as kidney pains, but still horrid nevertheless. Hope your healed up and floating right along....Thanks for the support. Harrybaby:D

Oh, Harry, I'm SO sorry to hear this. This is certainly the last thing you need to add to your laundry list of ailments... I hope you get to feeling better soon.

Ice is evil, I've decided. Yesterday my hubby spun out on a patch of ice on his way to work. The body shop is saying it's a total loss (but at least hubby is okay). We're just waiting to hear from insurance (they won't go look at it until Monday) so we can figure out how we will be replacing it. If I never see ice again it will be too soon!

Take care!

Oh My Heavens

Oh My Heavens

Niki,

I am so sorry to hear about your husbands accident....like me, you do not need this on top of everything you have been through. I am thrilled to hear that he is ok and that you were not hurt either. I certainly hope that this year will be better for all of us as we have certainly had our share of bad news. Thanks for the support and sharing the "Ice Capades" with me..LOL-sorry, I just couldn't resist....I try like heck to use humor wherever I can to cope with life's difficulties. Harrybaby:eek: :D :D  :D :D

I knew a guy who had broken some ribs..I told him I could see he was in a lot of pain. I remember his answer--don't worry-it only hurts if I breathe. I hope you don't hurt with every breath, but I am afraid you do.

The funniest part is that he had JUST called me at home to tell me that I should be careful on any overpasses. Then he goes and skids out on the first one he comes to!

I wholeheartedly agree! Unfortunately, I know I'll be having at least one surgery this year. :( Stinking pacemaker battery...

Oh, we do the exact same. Makes it difficult when you're in pain (laughing can hurt!), but it sure helps get through the tough stuff. To see my hubby's take on the accident you can read his web journal at http://www.smokingcrayolas.net/words/index.php. He even included pictures! :D

Keep smiling, but try not to laugh too hard. It really can hurt!

Harry-

Just saw your question about YakTrax, etc. I get mine at the local sporting goods store. The last pair were around $20.00 or so. I have used only YakTrax, and I love them. I wear them when we have bad weather and I have to walk the dog.

I would call around. AND you could also ask your mailman about where to get them. I am pretty sure in your climate, like ours, the mail people wear those kinds of things.

They have professional models for mail people and others like that, and regular walking models. I use the regular YakTrax.

You just slip them on over whatever shoes you are wearing. It takes a little effort, but you will get the hang of it.

Harry

Just take it slow and easy----I'm sure you can't do much else!!! You have to give it about 2 weeks and then you'll start feeling better, but keep it slow for the rest of the winter.

Soooo sorry to hear about this one!

Evelyn

Harry, you didn't?
So sorry to hear you are having more problems/pain to deal with. Like my mother used to tell me, it's always going to be something.
Try not to breathe. :D :D
Thinking of you.

OMG, Harry, I'm so sorry! Ice is tricky stuff. We had a very bad storm a few weeks ago, but it's like springtime now.

I think Home Depot carries those shoe things and we recently bought some at REI. I bet you could just buy them online and not even have to go out for them!

I hope it doesnt' hurt too much to laugh. This video was filmed in Portland and made the news everywhere, I think. You can't tell, but it is a very steep hill and filmed from a high rise apartment. It isn't actually that funny, but you just can't help laughing at how amazingly impossible the streets were that morning!! Turn your sound on as you can hear all the banging! The driver of the first vehicle was in his late 70's and appears to just keep gunning the motor!! It would probably make a good ad for BMW!

Please be careful and take care!!

Cort, see the new thread I started.

Oh, Harry! Just lay around and read for a few days, however it's weakening to stay in bed for too long. If you can stand very straight and walk a little, maybe that'll be enough exercise! Blessins........

Oh Harry, I am so sorry to hear about your fall and your broken ribs! It's not like you need something else!

I hope you heal quickly and that the worst of the pain is over soon.

Take care!!!!!!

Harry!!!

Harry!!!

So sorry to hear about the breaking of your ribs! My aunt broke her ribs some years ago (or cracked them) and she said the pain was excruciating.

Get better and soon!
