I posted the other day about exercise, as I have started running again in the last month or two. Well, last night I went to the gym, and ran/walk then did the elliptical thing. When I left, I had to run some errands at the store, and I felt funny the entire time. Very weak, unstable, and physically exhausted. I actually found it really difficult to even stand. When I got home I took my blood pressure out of curiosity, and it was 90/62 , and a little later I got 92/60. I assumed that it was low because of the 'workout' on my heart. I am normally 105 to 115 systolic.

Today, was a usual day. I went to a movie and while sitting there, my left hand started to hurt, my chest hurt, the back of my head hurt and felt heavy, and my eyes felt fuzzy. I felt like I was going to pass out. This continued throughout the movie. My fingers had pins and needles. When I left the movie I still felt a little odd, and my voice and others, sounded like I had earmuffs on.

I came home and decided to call the doc, cause I just felt so weird. My doc is out, and the doc in the office recommended that I follow up next week with my regular doc.

Tonight I still feel a little weak and dizzy, but I don't feel like I did earlier.

I am wondering if anyone else has experienced something like this? Do you think it could be caused by the exercise? Could it be a TIA? Any thoughts?

Thanks

and my eyes felt fuzzy.

For clarification's sake, was your vision fuzzy or did your eyes somehow feel fuzzy?

Are you on coumadin? And, if so, when did you last test? Your increased activity might cause downward fluctuations in your INR. Can you get a test tomorrow maybe?

Are you on blood pressure medication? If so, might it need adjustment with your increased fitness level? That's pretty low BP. Arlyss once mentioned that you can raise your BP a bit in a hurry by drinking a big glass of ice water. If this feeling recurs maybe you could try that. The pain in the left hand, chest and head does worry me. If that comes back I think a trip to the ER is warranted.

Please keep us posted. I'm gonna be worrying about you.

Hi,
I am not actually on coumadin, I have a tissue valve, so the INR is not likely the issue. My eyes felt stuck..does that make since? Its actually not the first time thats happened with my eyes. They feel like they cant move, they are crossed, and I am having a hard time focusing, cause things are kind of fuzzy.

No medication at all. I was on nifedical (sp) calcium channel blocker pre-surgery, but since everything has been stable after my surgery, I haven't been on any meds.
The pain was bothersome when it was occurring, and I definitely was concerned. I am really sensitive to issues now, and especially since I have started increasing my activity.

Thanks for your feedback.

This is just a thought, but are you hydrated enough since you started exercising? I sometimes feel the same way that you decribed, but they are experimenting with my BP meds. which now have a diuretic with it. I felt so weak the other morning, and everything seemed to be in slow motion, so I took my BP, and I was 90/68. I did a quick search to find a solution to get this back up, and found that drinking a lot of fluids would increase the blood volume. I drank a ton of water, and then threw in some tomato soup in case it was a salt thing, and a big glass of OJ in case it was a potassium thing, and I was much better shortly, and my BP was back up to normal for me.

Were you nervous in the movie when the symptoms started again? Sounds a little like anxiety? If it continues, I would see your Dr. and maybe ask about getting some lab work to make sure all your iron, thyroid, glucose, etc. levels are OK.

Keep us posted.

It could possibly be your bleeding internally. I found out the hardway. Don't be me, go to the ER and get checked.

I agree with Ross. I don't like the on-call doctor passing the buck until your regular doctor gets back. You have symtoms that include arm, chest and neck pain and the doctor tells you to "wait until next week"?!

If not the ER, go to an urgent care facility.

Any unexplained pain with other symptoms such as yours should be checked out immediately. It could be as simple as a pinched nerve from the exercise but it could be something very serious. Please do not wait until next week.

I would make sure I know the name of that "doctor on call" and put him on my list of doctors I will never work with again.

Hey. I have had three TIA's so far, since my OHS in July of '06. My first two were 100% cognitive....I didn't lose conciousness but I did lose the ability to know who I was, where I was, and why I was. My BP at the time was WAY too low for me....something like 82/52 at times and that was a concern. Like others here, I was told to drink more fluids & that helped, also, exercise DOES both raise BP during the exertion but then of course it lowers the BP to something lower than your starting BP. At least that's what the nurses in cardiac rehab told me. These first two were just a week after getting home from the hospital. My third one was in October....during that one I had symptoms VERY similiar to what you describe. I've learned since that those are classic TIA symptoms..and I had them maybe once or twice PRIOR to my surgery too, but mistook the symptoms for an unusual type of migraine.

I would by-pass the urgent care facility (the ones around here say they'd just send me to the ER anyway) and go straight to the ER if it occurs again. I'm glad I did.

And the 'on-call' doc's "advice" to you should be reported to the director of the medical group that hired them. Wait 'til next week with symptoms of TIA? Good Lord....

Yes, I must say i was disapointed in the advise I recieved. It certainly makes me grateful that my regular cardio is not like that, and he listens to everything I say, and takes it seriously. He would have never suggested that.

I called the doctors office this week, and I moved my apt up sooner. Rather then going in two times within a couple of weeks, I felt it would be better to just move the ogiginal apt up sooner.

I feel ok, much better than last week. But, I am taking it day by day, and if I feel like I did that day at the movie, I will go straight in.

I have read everything i can online, about every possible cause of the way I feel. Its just overwelming..

Anyone ever heard of somebody getting endocarditis from a head injury?

Thank you all for your feedback, and support. I will keep you posted. :)

Please also mention your chest pain while running and your typical running HR to your cardio. I'm not sure that "running through the chest pain" is an advisable approach. I would also think that the HR may be a bit on the high side.

BTW - when my BP dropped into that range, it was due the pericardial effusion and the resultant pressure that the fluid was putting on my heart. If that is not your normal blood pressure, you should definitely discuss that as well with your cardio.

Good Luck,
David
