Well its six weeks since AVR via bentalls and i thought i'd post an update...

I'm almost watertight again, the bullet wound at the top of my chest is a tiny pimple and thankfully the groin wound that was created which was the biggest inconvenience is almost healed although bloody ugly.

I had my first bath a few days ago based on this near watertight status and it was gooooood.

Also been to the beach twice with the family and kids and even went for a swim....it felt good.

Also been in the pool twice...a bit weird to swim under water when you can hear the tick tick tick but i guess it will stop me thinking about the sharks :D

Chest has healed well, i'm picking up my 4 year old who is a solid lump of meat.

Everything heart related seems fine, not recalled a dizzy spell for some time and am able to sleep on left or right as required..

My back is a little fragile from sleeping on it but twisting the top half to get comfortable during the early days but hopefully the swimming will help that.

Driving again which is great.

Managed to get through xmas, new year etc without blowing my INR and finding that the INR/Warafin thing is no big deal.

Starting rehab tomorrow which should be interesting and also seeing my surgeon for a follow up on Wednesday so hopefully i will get a mini thumbs up from him before getting a full thumbs up from the cardiologist later this month..

Anyhow, thats all i can think of, just thought i'd post a few bits and bobs to show that life quickly returns to normal if you are sitting there worrying about an upcomming surgery.

Regards.

:)
Sounds like a text book recovery!!
Glad to hear you are getting back into the swing of life again!:)

and of course that you have something 'else' to think about besides Sharks:eek: LOL.

Sounds like you're doing "swimmingly" well!:D Enjoy your new found health. I'm sure it is inspirational to those in the waiting room.

Congrats! Looking forward to that level of normalcy myself.

Isn't it wonderful to feel good and have things moving in the right direction?
Happy that things are going that way for you now. Keep it up, you're doing great.

Thanks for that great report. So encouraging! I am going into week 5 post op, so am looking forward to being able to pick up my pretty hefty 2 and 1/2 year old granddaughter soon!

Keep on going with that great recovery.

Great to hear you are doing so well.Good luck with your appointments I am sure they will be fine.
By the way I bet it has been fun for you over the last 2 months OHS and being English in Australia the ashes and all that!!!!

Well done!

Well done!

Sounds like you have the right attitude. The sound of the valve can become an interesting party trick. Just open and close your mouth at the ear of any boy under 12 and they will think your are so cool! Bionic Dad is how my 11 year old describes me to his friends.
Happy New Year
Patrick

Sounds like you're doing great Dave. I'm sure your surgeon will give you two thumbs up!

Nice to read that you're doing so well! How did you enjoy your first day of rehab (assuming you've finished it by the time you read this!)?

Just got back, very interesting, my max heart rate should be 120 when on beta blockers and i did most of the session at 115 with one peak to 125 at the very end of a fast treadmill session.

It was great to feel sweat on my forehead for the first time and the session was generally good....surprisingly my legs were quite weak, felt the thighs give up when doing squats but as theyve done nothing for two months i can't complain.

Back again wednesday for another one, once i can break into a jog i'll be happy....

Actually, never 'felt' my heart at all during the session, my dodgy back yes, my dodgy hamstrings yes, my buggered calfs yes but my heart no..hopefully a sign of good things to come.

Regards.

If i'd been at work i'd have took some stick but i've considered myself an Australian with a funny accent for some time now so i think i can say 'we' won. ;)

My son plays cricket for the local club and he sat watching the ashes wearing a ricky ponting jersey, each time a pom got bowled out he cheered.

I've just got to arrange a ceremony date and i'll be a proper aussy, hopefully i'll do that before i go back to work, not sure they will be happy me taking a day off for that so soon after returning from 3 months off

Good to hear all is going brilliantly with your recovery now hitting the 6 week milestone without any dramas ...
Enjoy the Summer and the Cricket!

Yeah thats the way,if we can't beat them join them.Glad everything went well with the test. You are doing great, keep it up.
