I'm thirteen weeks out today. Had a Echocardiogram and lipid profile two weeks ago and got the results. Doc says keep doing whatever it is because it's working. Valve seems fine but some of the numbers are high. He said everything is within range and they typically don't do echos at this stage so there's nothing to worry about. My lipid report was best ever. He put me on Crestor two weeks after surgery. My total then was 256, today it was 156. The lowest I ever had before was 225 when I was on Lipitor. Next visit is in July.
The only lingering problem is water retention. I'm taking 20 mg lasix daily. He is sure that as the heart walls thin and get back to normal size that the retention problem will then be a thing of the past.
Went out and ran 4 miles non-stop today. My longest run since surgery. I'm slowly building up my endurance base and trying very hard to be patient about it. Very difficult for someone who is stubborn, persistant and impatient.
Mel

Congratulations on a great report...
Wish my cholesterol levels were as perfect as yours are, what an excellent drop you have had there!

Congratulations- what a difference 3 months makes! Keep up the good work, Mel.

Mel - all sounds good. Congrats!! Keep up the good work. Hears to a continued uneventful recovery!!

Great report! Isn't it great to have your progress be officially noted by your dorctor. I hope the fluid retention will soon be a thing of the past! Marcie

Dear stubborn, persistent, and impatient,
Great report! If you're running 4 miles non-stop, I think that tells you all that you need to know!

Good for you Mel! Did they say that the lower cholesterol is related to your more efficient heart, or is it just more careful diet? Mine has gone down a little too so I'm just wondering.

Given my family history of high cholesterol, the only thing that got those numbers low was the Crestor. Lipitor didn't even do it and I couldn't take it anyway. I'd like to think that the more efficient heart would help but I'd be very doubtful on that one. Careful diet? I've been a non-redmeat eater for over 20 years and only used olive or canola oil for years. Not to say my diet is perfect, I like cookies, cake and ice cream but do not eat them on a regular basis. I'm not much of a junk-food junkie and rarely eat at any fast food restaurant. One of my major downfalls is Mexican food and cheese. I know there are ways to improve the diet even more but I only want to give up so much...which is one reason I like to run.

At one period of my life, I went vegetarian for over a year and it never did a thing for my cholesterol levels...it only had my family angry at me... more than usual. :D

Wow, four miles non stop of running! Great recovery!!! Great news on the cholesterol too. Keep it up.
