I'd heard the Protime was better but want/need opinions please. I also have a blood clotting disorder in addition to the mechanical valve.

Thanks!!!

Lisa

I had the ProTime for almost 4 years. I now have the INRatio. Both are accurate and reliable. The INRatio is much easier to use, and much less chance of getting errors during testing. The INRatio is much more portable. It operates off AA batteries. Hands down - INRatio.

To answer yyour question, I have the lupus anticoagulant and an anticardiolipin antibody.

I'll let Al answer this, but I think you more or less have to test at the lab. I'm not positive though.

I?m sorry, but the INRatio monitor is not recommended for use by people with your condition. I felt it best to come right out and state this before you put too much time and energy into your search. I?m not sure if any self test monitor will be effective, but I can?t speak officially for the ProTime or CoaguChek.

Brendan could you explain why to me? I just recently (Nov 2006) purchased an InRatio machine. I have not had a valve replacement only a blood clotting disorder secondary to lupus. Qas never mentioned that to me and I verified my machine 8 times with the lab and my InRatio was only .3 higher than the lab... which is a very good inter-tester ratio to me.

Ticky - so sorry that home testing doesn't look like an option for you.:(
