this is so easy to make - none of that waiting to rise. It would make excellent rolls for your Christmas dinner - or any other time. I don't know how heart friendly it is, tho:

COMPANY ROLLS/BISCUITS

COOKING TIME: 20 Minutes

2 CUPS WARM WATER
1 PKG YEAST
1/4 C SUGAR
3/4 C OIL OR MARGARINE
1 EGG BEATEN
4 C SELF RISING FLOUR

Dissolve yeast in warm water. Add remaining ingredients. Grease muffin tins (I use spray) Fill each muffin section about half full with batter. Bake 425 for 20 minutes

NOTE: Dough keeps well. Can be put in fridge and used as needed. This is my favorite roll recipe (no waiting for rolls to rise) They are so good and easy to make. Can also be frozen after baking and reheated or stored in fridge and heated 10-12 seconds in microwave.

I hope to try this recipe, Ann. I always have bad luck with any batter that has to rise, so perhaps I will do better with this one.
Thanks for sharing.

Mary

They (rolls) just came out of the oven for our big dinner tonight. It's the last night before our oldest son leaves for Basrah, and the kids have reunited for the sendoff.
They ARE a cross between a roll and a bisquit.:) Mark, #4 son, just declared them to be Excellent and they sure are easy to make.:p
Thanks, Ann.
I will always remember this night, and your recipe.

Isn't that just the best recipe ever. No fuss, no muss, no rolling out anything, just stir and bake immediately. Bet they won't last long. And the recipe makes a bunch. Glad you all liked them.

Ann, sounds like a great recipe. We'll try that one. We like being able to get a biscuit or two out of the freezer when we want.

I bought the flour/yeast today..will make a batch this Friday..to take to son's house....Mary, I know that your son John will also remember last night's dinner..before he left today for Basrah.....Nothing like Mama's home cooking.:D Both of my grown kids..always wants my homemade from scratch ...turkey/chicken dressing..Takes several hours to get it done..but, they just love it...Not like the bag kind:D ...My Mama taught me the recipe..and her Mama taught her......Nowadays, daughter..is too busy?Afraid the old-time cooking is going by the wayside.:( .....Bonnie

We are having a bunch for Christmas dinner. Two of us, 7 of them, mostly children (5). I think I will make a batch because the children will just love them. I can bake them ahead of time and just re-heat in the oven.

Hi Ann

Hi Ann

You recipe sounds great but when you say I pkg of yeast what weight would that be ? ( so I can get the correct amount here in Nz.)
Thanks
Wendy :)

Wendy, Lord willin, I plan to go to the store today to buy some yeast. We can get it here in little single packages or in jars. I am buying the packages today and will post here tonight what the amount is. I can't remember if it's a teaspoonful or an ounce. It's been a long time since I made these and I just found my recipe (again) last weekend. I had it on my computer and the computer crashed, but I had printed it out and stuck it in a drawer. Going through old papers, there it was.

The yeast I boughtyesterday..Fleichmann's..3 pkg. together..cut out what you need?..is 1/4 oz. to a pkg.....Maybe mary can tell us what she used? bonnie

Wendy, I know the yeast packages I bought in England when we lived there were the same size as american packages. They are also to one compressed yeast cake or I think it is also 12g. I hope this helps

Thanks so much !!!!

Thanks so much !!!!

I thought I'd better check, otherwise,if I got the wrong yeast, I had visions off giant rolls creeping slowly out of the oven as they expanded,(Dont worry just my vivid imagination !!! )
Thanks,I am going to try them out this weekend
Best Wishes for the Festive Season
Wendy:) :) :)

I just took my first half batch out of the oven. Had to eat one. I had forgotten how good they are. I used olive oil because we don't use vegetable oil. It took only moments to mix the batch, fill the cups and put them in the oven. We have 12 cup muffin pan so mine will turn out 24 rolls. These will probably go to the church where there is a Christmas dinner 3 times on Christmas Day for the needy. Daughter is serving and she will take them. I know they will enjoy. I can bake another batch for us.

I must not be using as much batter in the muffin tins as you are, Ann, because my batch made 36 rolls. I used 18 the first time, put the dough in the refrigerator as you suggested, and just now put the rest in 3 tins. Next time I'll make them bigger, and see how many servings they make.

is self rising flour the same as the big bag of flour in the store. you know the regular bag of flour?
I am going to try and make some tonight and then pour stouffers creamed chip beef over them. Haha Wife is gone and I have to cook tonight

You're pretty ambitious!:p
The bag I bought said self rising, Randy, so I'm not sure. You can always try it and see how it turns out.

Yep! Definately between a roll and a bisquit.
Thanks Hensley hey are great.:)

Mary, I used to have all sorts and sizes of muffin tins. Teresa moved in and downsized. Now we only have one 12 cup muffin pan and the cups are large. I prefer the teflon one I had that had smaller muffin cups. That would have made 36.

Self-rising, definitely, Randy. There is plain flour and there is self-rising. You just gotta make sure you read the bag of flour. Glad you liked them. Chipped beef sounds just wonderful. I love it and used to make it on Sunday mornings for children and husband to put over pancakes or toast. delicious

Teresa just got home from work, tried one, and decided maybe we need to keep these and not send them to church! She heated hers in the microwave and added butter. Then she tried another one.
