A few months ago I asked in here if anyone knew how long it might take some tradesmen to powerwash and paint my garden wall. I also needed a long passage scrubbing down with a wire brush and painting, plus some work in my garden (yard). It really isn't something that I can afford to pay for, and it isn't really anything that I can tackle myself, or if I do it will take an age.

Recently our local newspaper asked for nominations for people 'who deserved something nice to happen', people who might have had a rough time of it lately. A friend of mine off the internet (she lives in Hong Kong and is coming to stay for Christmas and New Year) contacted them and nominated me - and I won!

A man has just been to look at what needs to be done and work will start after Christmas, it won't cost me one penny - apart from some cups of coffee. Wow, nice things just don't happen to me, not like that. Fantastic.

Great stuff....

Great stuff....

*Wow Sue, thats fantastic. Im delighted for you. Nice things do happen to nice people 8)

It sure does feel good, doesn't it. A couple of things have happened somewhat like that to me. I hope people realize that there will always be needed help and find some other things to help you with also.

Sue, thanks for letting us know. It is very comforting to know that people are out there listening. Good luck with your project, and I won't be surprised to hear of others coming along to help you in small ways as well.

:) Marguerite

Congratulations Sue.....

Congratulations Sue.....

I bet that this is sure making you feel good about now....between the reassurance that it will be taken care of and the thrill of being selected...I am really happy for you...Harrybaby:D :D :D

Sue,

What a great surprise and a wonderful holiday gift. You sure have a lovely friend.

Thanks for sharing and don't forget updated photos.;) :D ;)

What a lovely thing to have happened. Thanks for sharing. I know it makes me feel good and I am sure it does the same for everyone else.

Take care, and enjoy that newly renovated garden wall and passage when it is done!

what a wonderful surprise - to all of us. We are rejoicing with you because we remember your pictures and questions and the seeming hopelessness of it all. You have a great friend. You must be one, too.

It has happened!

It has happened!

On Tuesday I received a phone call asking if they could start on Wednesday. At first three men arrived, then about an hour later the photographer from the newspaper arrived to take photos of us early in the process. Then more men arrived!

I think they really got into the spirit of the occasion and it was like one of those makeovers. I have never seen tradesmen work so quickly, they hardly stopped apart from a cup of coffee in the morning and some tea in the afternoon.

Today I got a telephone call from the newspaper asking for before and after photos, and wanting to arrange for an interview. There was also a call from a radio station, they interviewed me by phone and will edit it before putting it on air.

Here is part of my wall now. :)
