Hello all, it's been awhile since I've been on here. When I first found out that time had caught up with me, I found this site and really truly found everyones insight and comments comforting. Since then, I've taken what I read, asked lots of questions to several different Cardios and Surgeons and finally decided on what to do. The end result is at the ripe old age of 36 I'm having the Medtronic Stentlis jammed into me through a quarter inch hole between my ribs!! If only?? No, I'm getting the pig tissue (fourth generation I might add) as well as a small graph for my decending aorta. I had talked seriously with my Surgeon about the Ross but after consultation decided the pig tissue was right for me. With all the details set, I'm really just wanting it done now. Dr. Alan Speirs and the team at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, VA better be ready for me because I'm ready to rock and roll.

At anyrate, thank you all for the inspring words and practical advise. I'll check in up unitl I go in and then I'll look to give you an update on the other side.

Cheers

Chris

I'm putting you on the calendar Chris. And I wish you the very best. Hopefully the technique will have a little more finesse than "jamming" it in.;)

Chris,

Good luck and know that our prayers are with you.

Right Behind you.....

Right Behind you.....

Chris,

Dr. Spiers will be doing my MVR four days after you have your operation, Jan. 2 - I too will be at Inova Fairfax :) This will be my third OHS:( I had a septal ventricular defect repaired at age 6 then, last year I went to the Cleveland Clinic to have my mitral valve repaired. I should have saved myself the trip for all of the good going to Cleveland did....the repair failed. I too did a lot of research and in the end....well, I chose not to go back to Cleveland and am confident that I have found a great surgeon in Spiers - definitely one of the area's best!

You'll do great!!!

Christie

Wishing you all the best! From another D.C.'er in the group.

Warm regards,
Ruth

All the best for the worst New Years Eve you are likely to have ;)

It's great when you become happy with your choice and the calm decends, i look forward to your update.

Just want to send our best wishes for a successful surgey and uneventful recovery. It may be the worst New Year's Eve, but it for sure will be a great 2007 filled with good health!:D

Chris, I also wanted to wish you the best and will be waiting for updated posts. Good Luck and Godspeed!!

I had my surgery at Inova Fairfax. They are the best. You can't beat Dr. Speirs.I've seen him operate from the Dome. The whole team works together like clockwork. You will do well!

OHS also on Dec 27th

OHS also on Dec 27th

I also am having OHS on Dec. 27th to replace my bicuspid aortic valve and ascending aorta. I am in the process of deciding which route to go. Mechanical or biologic valve. I am 58. I found out about the ascending aorta anuerysm after a Ct scan for radiation planning for breast cancer. I've had the defect since birth but didn't know until Oct 2006. I'm leaning toward the mechanical because I don't want to have to go thru this type of surgery again. I had 3 surgeries in Aug for the cancer-biopsy,lumpectomy & sentinel node dissection and finally axillry dissection removing 8 lymph nodes. I finished 30 treatments of radiation Nov. 30, 2006. I thought that was enough. Then I had a heart catherization and echocardigram done Dec 1. When I went for my pre-op appt Dec 14, I was told about the heart valve needing replacement. So I now have to decide which one to go with. Good luck on your surgery Chirsh, I'll add you to my long prayer list. I know alot of cancer patients and I can add one more to the list. Quite afew people have thought God gave me the cancer so I would find out about the anuerysm and defective heart valve. My breast cancer is very slow growing so I only needed radiation and hormone therapy for at least 6 yrs. GOD can work in mysterious ways! God bless everyone!
