I had my AVR on 11/16/06. Went home on 11/21/06. Felt great the first two days then started going down hill. On 11/26/06 I went to the hospital for my first blood test. I felt so bad that I stopped by the ER. My coumadin was at 9. Back in the hospital. They gave me a ton of vitamin K. They also found that I had fluid around the heart and I was in Afib. Wed they removed the fluid. I feel pretty good now but my INR is 1.5. They are still working on that.

Steve,
I'm glad you made that stop in ER. Hopefully this is all behind you now and you will begin a smooth recovery. I hope that fluid around your heart wasn't blood!

Hi Steve -

Hopefully this is just a bump in the road; hang in there. I had to be rehospitalized for A-fib after my AVR and I remember being pretty discouraged about it then. But things quickly got better.

You'll probably just feel better and better very soon. Best wishes to you.

I'm sorry to hear of your experience, Steve, but it is fairly common.
I think the worst part of valve replacement is you never know what complications might arise after the initial surgery.
It's like it's not over, until it's over, or it's not over until the fat lady sings, or it's not over until Elivis has left the building!
ARGH!
